Women's soccer falls 2-1 against Wesleyan, Harvey '28 scores

Ledbury '26 collected the assist on Harvey's goal for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Hamilton College's Isabel Harvey '28 scored the lone goal for the Continentals in their 2-1 NESCAC loss against the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (1-2-1, 0-2-1 NESCAC) recorded its first goal against a conference opponent.
  • Wesleyan (3-0-0, 1-0) remained undefeated as the Cardinals opened their NESCAC schedule.

How it Happened

  • The Cardinals quickly got on the board in the third minute thanks to a goal by Sheridan Snow. After a free kick by Kerenza Leahey was headed away by a Continental in the box, Snow collected the ball and gently guided it into the lower-right corner of the goal.
  • The Cardinals stayed aggressive in the first half and outshot the Continentals 12-3. Nieve Tonna '26 had an impressive six saves and kept Hamilton with Wesleyan going into the break.
  • The Continentals produced more shots in the second half with five (one on goal), compared to the Cardinals' six shots (five on goal).
  • Despite strong efforts by Abby Douglass '27, Maddie Buck '27 and Carly McMahon '27 to keep the ball out of the box, Wesleyan found the back of the net again in the 73rd minute. Gabrielle Freeman threw the ball down the line to Meredith Feiner, who took the ball into the middle of the field. Feiner, receiving pressure from a Hamilton defender, took a quick shot from outside the box that unexpectedly curved into the lower-left corner of the goal just past the reach of Tonna.
  • Hamilton's only goal came in the 81st minute after Erin Rayhill '25 collected the ball on a throw-in by Daisy Sullivan '26. After getting some pressure from the Wesleyan defense on the left side of the field near the end line, Maddie Ledbury '26 picked up the ball from Rayhill and quickly crossed it into the goal area. Harvey snuck past her defender and ran onto Ledbury's pass, swiftly kicking the ball into the lower-right side of the goal past the Wesleyan goalkeeper.
  • Hamilton took two corner kicks in the final six minutes but couldn't get the equalizer.

Notes

  • Tonna made a season-high 10 stops for the Continentals.
  • Harvey celebrated her first collegiate goal.
  • Ledbury tallied her first assist this season and third of her Hamilton career.
  • Snow and Feiner scored their second goals of the season.
  • Wesleyan's goalkeeper and junior captain Molly Brumbach stopped one shot.

Next Match

The Continentals return to Love Field for a midweek, out-of-conference match against Utica University (2-3-0 overall) on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 4:30 p.m.
