CLINTON, N.Y. – University of Rochester's Sophia Cuneo scored with 26 seconds left in the fourth quarter and lifted the Yellowjackets to a 2-1 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Wednesday evening, Sept. 11.
Season Update
- The Continentals (1-2 overall) are ranked 24th in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.
- Nationally ranked No. 21 Rochester (5-0) won its fourth road game in the last seven days and remained perfect in 2024.
How It Happened
- Cuneo scored on the Yellowjackets' fifth penalty corner and sixth shot in the last four minutes of the fourth quarter.
- After a scoreless first half, Rochester finally broke the ice 3:58 into the third quarter on another corner. Hannah Mehta found the back of the cage after receiving a pass from Kristina Fedorova.
- Lilly Truchon '26 pulled Hamilton even with 10:01 remaining in the fourth. Sammy Higgins '26 inserted the ball on a corner and Claire Tratnyek '26 hammered a shot towards the cage. Truchon, who was positioned in front of the goalkeeper, slickly tipped the ball into the cage. It turned out to be the Continentals' last shot.
Notes
- Truchon scored her first goal this year and the 11th of her Hamilton career.
- Tratnyek recorded her second career assist for the Continentals.
- Abby Griffin '26 started in the cage and made one save in the first half for Hamilton.
- Kelly Janssen '28 relieved Griffin at the start of the third quarter and stopped five shots.
- The Yellowjackets' Kara Houston registered four of her six saves in the first quarter.
- Rochester racked up eight shots and six corners in the fourth quarter alone.
- The Yellowjackets held a 15-9 shot advantage, and were awarded 11 corners to the Continentals' four.

Hamilton plays its third straight contest against a ranked team on Saturday, Sept. 14 when the Continentals host No. 15 Wesleyan University (3-0) in NESCAC action at noon.
