AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College's Jack Dove hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning that put the Mammoths ahead for good in their 8-5 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Amherst's Memorial Field on Sunday, April 7.
Season Update
- Hamilton (7-10, 1-5 NESCAC West) lost its fifth straight game.
- The Mammoths (13-4, 4-2) extended their win streak to four games.
How It Happened
- Amherst scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and led 2-0 through four.
- The Continentals took the lead briefly with four runs in the top of the fifth. With one out and runners on first and second, Greg Kopp '25 singled to center and drove in a run. Shane Dux '24 followed with a two-run double to left field and moved to third on a ground ball to second base. The next two batters reached base on a walk and a hit by pitch, and Jack Griffin '24 made it 4-2 when he drew another walk with the bases loaded.
- Hamilton's lead was short-lived as Dove put the Mammoths up 6-4 with his blast in the bottom of the inning.
- The Continentals pulled within a run in the seventh. Jackson Sattinger '24 reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and reached third base on a wild pitch. Charlie O'Brien '24 laced a two-out single to left center that drove in Sattinger.
- Amherst added two insurance runs in the eighth and Hamilton didn't have a base runner in its final two at-bats.
Notes
- Dux doubled twice and is tied for the team lead with seven. He has 17 career doubles with the Continentals.
- Kopp picked up his 84th career hit and 50th career run batted in.
- O'Brien hit safely in all three games in the series and is batting .400 this season.
- Griffin, who also singled, has a four-game hit streak intact. He's third on the team with 14 RBI.
- Kenny Rix '25 picked up his second base hit this season.
- Ethan Righter '27 (0-1) pitched 1.1 innings of relief and took the loss.
- Peter Jones '25 started on the mound and allowed one earned run on two hits in three innings, but walked five.
- Christian Fagnant hit a solo homer in the fourth for the Mammoths. Charlie LaFreniere had two singles and stole a base.
- Adrian Caron (2-0) got the last out in the fifth and picked up the win. Jack Sampedro tossed the last four innings and earned the save.
- Amherst finished with just six hits but drew 11 walks off five Hamilton pitchers.

The Continentals travel to Ithaca College (16-5 overall) for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, April 9 at 4 p.m.
