Softball drops two against No. 17 Tufts in NESCAC doubleheader

Zorn ’26, Mayer ’26 and Tansky ’25 finished with two hits each for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Tufts University took the lead with a three-run rally in the top of the seventh in Game 2 and the Jumbos swept the Hamilton College Continentals in a NESCAC doubleheader at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Sunday, April 7. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton moved to 12-12 overall and 5-5 in the NESCAC. 
  • Tufts (18-4, 7-1) is ranked 17th in the NFCA Division III Top 25 poll. The Jumbos have won five consecutive games.  

Game 1 (Tufts, 3-1)

 
How It Happened
  • Tufts opened the scoring with one run in the top of the second on one walk and back-to-back doubles. 
  • The Jumbos stretched their lead to 3-0 with two runs in the third on a pair of hits and an error. 
  • Hamilton scored its lone run in the fifth on a single and two Jumbos throwing errors. 
Notes
  • Jordan Merklin '26, Alexis Mayer '26 and Natalie Beebe '24 accounted for Hamilton's three hits. 
  • Keriann Slayton led the Jumbos with two hits. 
  • Bela Jimenez plated one run on a double. 
  • Michelle Adelman, Josie Steinberg, Rachel Moore, Lindsay Neumann and Haley Leimbach contributed one hit each. 
  • Sky Johnson picked up her seventh win in the circle with one unearned run on three hits, no walks and six strikeouts in seven innings. 

Game 2 (Tufts, 4-2)

 
How It Happened
  • Ella Heftved '25 helped give Hamilton a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third with a lead-off double to the gap in right center. Tansky hit an infield single and Heftved was able to score on a Jumbos throwing error.  
  • Tufts evened the score in the fourth on a trio of hits. The Jumbos had the bases loaded but the Continentals found the third out on a fly ball to left. 
  • Hamilton regained a one-run lead on one hit and an error in the fifth. With two outs, Merklin reached first on a fielding error and scored after Mayer blooped a pitch between the right fielder and second base for a standup double. 
  • Tufts went down in order in the sixth inning. 
  • The Continentals needed just two more outs to secure the win but Heaven Oliva sparked the Jumbos' offense with a solo homer. They kept the momentum and scored two more runs for a 4-2 lead.  
Notes
  • Three of Hamilton's six hits went for two bases.
  • Zorn ripped her fourth double of the season and finished with two hits.   
  • Tansky posted her fourth multi-hit game of the season and tallied four strikeouts in seven innings in the circle. She leads Hamilton's pitching staff with 38 strikeouts. 
  • Mayer collected her eighth double of the season.
  • Heftved hit her second double of the season. 
  • Oliva batted in a team-best two runs on a single and a home run.  
  • Steinberg had two hits and one RBI. 
  • Adelman, Moore, Kaitlyn Perucci, Lauryn Horita and Jimenez contributed one hit each. 
  • Claire Guitmann recorded her third win in the circle allowing two unearned runs on five hits and striking out seven in six innings pitched. 
  • Sophie DiCocco earned her second save of the season by tossing a scoreless seventh.  

Next Game

Hamilton faces SUNY Oneonta for a non-conference road twinbill on Wednesday, April 10 starting at 3:30 p.m.
