Softball splits NESCAC DH with Colby

Quinn ’25 finished with four hits and three runs batted in for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College split a NESCAC doubleheader with the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 6. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (12-10, 5-3 NESCAC) posted a 5-2 win in the opener. 
  • Colby moved to 9-7 overall and 1-1 in the conference after taking an 8-4 win in Game 2. 

Game 1

 
How It Happened
  • Tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the sun popped out and so did Hamilton's bats as the Continentals grabbed a two-run lead on three walks and one hit. Gaby Guerra '27, Jordan Merklin '26 and Taylor Santulli '25 loaded the bases with three straight walks. With two outs, Gabby Garrison '26 knocked in Guerra and Merklin on a single to right center. 
  • Colby struck first with two runs in the fourth on two hits and an error. 
  • The Continentals countered with two runs on a trio of hits in the bottom half.  Emma Tansky '25 hit an infield single to short and Alexis Mayer '26 drove her in on a triple that rolled to the wall in right center. Charlie Quinn '25 kept the two-out rally going with a single up the middle that scored Mayer. 
  • Hamilton added an insurance run in the sixth on two hits and a walk. Hadley Rogers '26 ripped a one-out double to left field, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a single through the left side by Guerra.   
Notes
  • Hamilton and Colby tallied six hits apiece. 
  • Mayer recorded her third career triple. 
  • Rogers hit her fourth double of the season. 
  • Tansky picked up her fifth win in the circle allowing five hits and two unearned runs in seven innings. 
  • Emma Burnham led Colby with two hits, including a two-run homer, and a walk. 
  • Ella Wilcox finished with two hits. 
  • Chloe Wilcox doubled and walked. 
  • Abby Orso struck out five batters in six innings for the Mules.

Game 2

 
How It Happened
  • The Mules took a 2-0 lead in the third on four hits. 
  • Colby added to its lead with three runs in the fourth and extended its lead to 8-0 with three more on three hits and an error in the fifth. 
  • Hamilton needed one run to stay alive in the bottom half and the Continentals were able to produce that run on a double by Quinn, a sacrifice bunt by Rogers and a two-out double by Natalie Beebe '24. 
  • The Continentals narrowed their deficit with two runs in the sixth on two walks and another double by Quinn. 
  • Garrison knocked in Hamilton's final run on a single up the middle. 
Notes
  • The Mules outhit the Continentals 10-5. 
  • Four Hamilton errors led to six unearned runs.
  • Quinn led Hamilton at the plate with two doubles and two runs batted in. 
  • Beebe smacked her ninth double of the season. 
  • Ramirez and Kiley led Colby with two hits and three runs batted in apiece. 
  • Cassie Cassidy and Grace Gouin tallied two hits apiece. 
  • Ayston Asadoorian scored three runs. 
  • Ashley Correll earned the win in the circle for the Mules, scattering five hits and allowing three earned runs and four walks, and striking out three in seven innings. 
Next Game
The Continentals are back in action with another NESCAC twinbill against Tufts University (16-4, 5-1) at Loop Road Athletic Complex on Sunday, April 7.
