Baseball completes historic sweep of Williams

Continentals outscore the Ephs 28-6 in three games

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Hamilton College Continentals tallied 21 hits in a NESCAC West Division doubleheader sweep of the Williams College Ephs at Williams' Bobby Coombs Field on Saturday, April 20. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (12-12, 6-6 NESCAC) picked up a 6-1 win in the seven-inning opener and posted an 8-2 victory in the nine-inning nightcap. The Continentals have won five of their last six games.   
  • Williams (8-19, 2-7) has lost its last four contests. 
Game 1
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton opened the scoring with one run on two hits in the top of the third. Charlie O' Brien '24 kicked off the inning with a triple to the right center gap, and Greg Kopp '25 drove him home on a sacrifice fly out to left field. 
  • The Continentals added a pair of runs on four hits in the sixth. Alfonso Rada '27 hit a one-out single to center, and the Continentals had two runners in scoring position after a double down the left field line by O'Brien. Kopp stepped up to the plate and smacked a clutch two-run double down the right field line. 
  • Williams scored its lone run in the bottom half on two hits. 
  • The Continentals tacked on three more runs in the seventh on three walks, a double and a sacrifice fly. Hamilton's first three batters reached base on balls, and Jackson Johns '24 doubled down the right field line for two runs. Rada knocked in Hamilton's final run on a sacrifice fly to right field. 
Notes
  • Kopp drove in a team-best three runs on his fifth double of the season. 
  • Johns plated two runs on two hits, including his seventh career double. 
  • O'Brien finished with a double, a triple and scored a team-best two runs. 
  • Rada had one hit and one RBI. 
  • Jack Griffin '24 and Michael Tallarida '26 both singled and walked once. 
  • Jackson Sattinger '24 and Shane Dux '24 drew two walks apiece. 
  • Jack Eshleman '25 (4-0) picked up his fourth win this season and his ninth at Hamilton on the bump after he allowed one run on three hits, walked two batters and fanned nine in seven complete innings. He leads the NESCAC with 59 strikeouts. 
  • Henry Juan had two of Williams' three hits.  
  • Owen McHugh hit a double for the Ephs.  
Game 2
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton jumped on top with three runs in the top of the second on three singles, two walks and a wild pitch. Johns and Rada ripped back-to-back singles and O'Brien scored them both on a single to center. With bases loaded, Dux worked the count for a two-out walk that scored Rada. The Continentals scored their third run on a wild pitch. 
  • Williams responded with two runs in the bottom half. 
  • The Continentals separated the score with two more runs in the fourth on three hits and an error. Kopp singled up the middle, Taylor Kaufman '26 singled through the left side and Sattinger drove in Kopp on a single to left field. With runners on second and third, Kaufman was able to score on a fielding error. 
  • Griffin led off the seventh with a free base after being hit and Lucas Herman '26 batted him in on a single up the middle. 
  • Hamilton scored its last run in the final inning on a double and a sacrifice fly. Dux kicked off the inning with a walk and advanced to the other corner after a double to center by Griffin. Johns eventually scored Dux on a sacrifice fly to center field. 
Notes
  • Dux drove in a team-best three runs on one hit and two walks. 
  • Sattinger finished 2-for-4 with two singles, a walk and had one run batted in. 
  • Griffin added a single and his third double of the season. 
  • Herman, Johns and O'Brien all plated one run on one hit. 
  • Rada tallied his 21st hit of the season. 
  • Eddie Taylor '25 tallied his second win on the mound as he allowed two runs on five hits, one walk and striking out two batters in three innings pitched. 
  • Ethan Righter '27 gave up just one hit in three scoreless innings. 
  • Kenny Rix '25 secured his second save of the season, allowing one hit and fanning three in three scoreless innings of relief. 
  • McHugh paced Williams with two hits, one RBI and three stolen bases.  
  • Sasha Palma went 2-for-3 with two hits and a walk. 
  • Mike Giove knocked in one run on one hit. 
  • Marcus Burrell and Ryan Nakajima contributed one hit each. 
Next Game
The Continentals will host the University of Rochester for a non-conference single nine-inning game on Tuesday, April 23 at 4 p.m.
