Baseball falls to Rochester, O'Brien '24 with two more hits

Kaufman ’26 had two hits and two stolen bases for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – University of Rochester's Colby Cruser launched a three-run homer and the Yellowjackets posted an 11-4 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Tuesday, April 23. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (12-13 overall) lost its third straight non-conference game.   
  • Rochester (15-14) is 8-4 in the Liberty League. 
How It Happened 
  • Hamilton plated two runs in its first at-bat on two hits and an error. Taylor Kaufman '26 hit a one-out infield single and quickly stole second. Shane Dux '24 walked and Jack Griffin '24 ripped a one-run single to the left center gap. Griffin took off for second and forced a throwing error that allowed Dux to score. 
  • Rochester sliced its deficit in half in the second inning on one hit and an error. 
  • The Continentals regained a two-run lead with another run in the bottom half. Jackson Johns '24 kicked the inning off with a walk, advanced to second on a single to left by Charlie O'Brien '24, took third on a passed ball and scored on an infield ground-out by Greg Kopp '25. 
  • The Yellowjackets busted the score open in the third with five runs on four hits, including a deep three-run homer down the right field line from Cruser. 
  • Rochester scored singles runs in the fourth and sixth innings and added three more in the ninth for an 11-3 cushion. 
  • Hamilton scored its final run in the bottom half on singles by Chester Boynton '27 and Henry Boehm '25 and a walk.

  • Kaufman led the Continentals with two hits and two stolen bases. 
  • O'Brien finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base. 
  • Kopp drove in one run on one hit. 
  • Griffin batted in one run on his 26th hit of the season. 
  • Boynton had one hit and scored once. 
  • Boehm tallied his first collegiate hit. 
  • Dux forced a team-best three walks. 
  • Jack Eshleman '25 struck out two batters in 1.1 innings pitched. 
  • Cruser drove in a team-best four runs for the Yellowjackets.
  • Josh Leadem finished 3-for-5 and scored twice. 
  • Luke Gregory notched two hits and scored twice. 
  • Sammy Besztery plated three runs on a double and a single. 
  • Ethan Jaquette knocked in two runs on one hit. 
  • Dan Tirabassi and Henry Jamieson added one hit each. 
  • Matthew Grier gave up three runs on three hits, walked three and struck out a team-best four batters in three innings pitched. 
  • Thomas Blaydes (3-1) earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out three in three scoreless innings. 
  • Zach Herzog, Magnus Siverston and Leadem all pitched one scoreless inning with one strikeout apiece.

The Continentals meets local opponent Utica University for the 34th playing of the Jackie Robinson Classic at a neutral site - DeLutis Field in Rome -- starting at 7 p.m.
