Women's lacrosse falls at Wesleyan, Lane '24 causes 9 turnovers

Six players scored goals for the Continentals in 14-7 setback

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wesleyan University scored the first five goals and the Cardinals went on to a 14-7 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Wesleyan's Smith Field on Saturday, April 13.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-5, 4-4 NESCAC) is receiving votes in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.
  • The seventh-ranked Cardinals (9-2, 5-2) won their fourth straight game.
 

How It Happened

  • Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 10 minutes and the Continentals didn't get closer than two goals the rest of the way.
  • The Cardinals led 5-2 after one quarter, 6-3 at the half and 10-7 through three quarters.
  • Hamilton's Sydney Anzelone '27 found the back of the net just before time expired in the third, but the Continentals didn't score again.
 

Notes

  • Sarah Stonestreet '25 paced Hamilton's offense with two goals for her third multi-goal game this season.
  • Anzelone finished with a goal and an assist and has back-to-back, multi-point games.
  • Meghan Lane '24 caused a career-high nine turnovers, scooped up seven ground balls and won three draw controls. Lane leads the NESCAC in caused turnovers and ground balls per game, and is second in draw controls per contest.
  • Bailey Lillis '24 caused three turnovers.
  • Maddigan Leifer '26 notched her 11th goal and has scored in four straight games.
  • Alex Orlando '25 recorded her 10th goal and has eight in the last four contests.
  • Kristin Vosswinkel '27 tallied her fourth goal with the Continentals.
  • Abby Smith '24 scored her third goal this week.
  • Marin Ciardiello '26 registered her second assist and third point in seven games this year.
  • Eliza Schwarz '27 made six saves in her second collegiate start.
  • Olivia Lai led Wesleyan with five goals, Laura Baine chipped in four points (3 goals, 1 assist), Molly Greer caused six turnovers and Izzy Weintraub stopped eight shots in 56-plus minutes.
  • The Cardinals scored six free-position goals.
 

Next Game

Hamilton plays another conference contest at No. 1 Middlebury College (12-0, 7-0) on Sunday, April 14 at noon.
