Alex Orlando '25 scored a season-high four goals and
Eliza Schwarz '27 made nine saves in her first collegiate start as the Continentals defeated the Williams College Ephs 12-7 in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Wednesday, April 10.
Season Update
- The Continentals (5-4, 4-3 NESCAC) have won two straight games against ranked teams. Hamilton is receiving votes in the ILWomen/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.
- Nationally ranked No. 11 Williams (7-4, 3-4) lost its third straight game.
How It Happened
- The Continentals scored the first goal and never trailed.
- Elsa Dean-Muncie tied the score at 4-4 for the Ephs with 5:32 left in the second quarter.
- Hamilton proceeded to score eight of the next nine goals and took control of the contest.
- Abby Smith '24 put the Continentals in front for good with 4:01 remaining in the second. Smith took a pass a few feet from the right sideline and drove towards the goal. She scored on a sharp-angle shot taken from between the edge of the fan and the goal line.
- Sydney Anzelone '27 made it 6-4 just 59 seconds into the third quarter. Anzelone cut from the right side of the goal into the middle of the fan and received a pass from Aine Cleary '25. Anzelone pivoted to her right after receiving the pass, took a few steps and fired a sidearm shot into the back of the net.
- Abby Godwin pulled Williams within 6-5 on a woman-up goal with 11:33 to go in the third. The Ephs didn't score again until late in the fourth quarter.
- Hamilton ran off the next six goals. Alana King '24 started the run with 10:43 left in the third when she scored on a free-position shot.
- Orlando gave the Continentals an 8-5 advantage with 7:15 remaining in the quarter. Julia Lee '27 picked up a ground ball after a save by the Williams goalie and found Orlando in the middle of the fan. She turned to her right, took a couple steps towards the goal and scored.
- Lee increased the lead to four goals 59 seconds later. She drove in all the way from the edge of the arc on the right wing to within a few feet of the crease and scored on a powerful overhand shot.
- Smith gave Hamilton a 10-5 lead with a goal that barely beat the horn at the end of the quarter. She cut into the middle of the fan from the goal line on the right side and bounced a shot past the goalie as time expired.
Notes
- Orlando has at least one goal in three straight games and nine this season.
- Lee finished with three points on two goals and an assist. She leads the team with 17 goals.
- Smith, who was playing with the women's hockey team until mid-March, tallied her first two goals this season.
- Anzelone, Sarah Stonestreet '25 and Maddigan Leifer '26 ended up with a goal and an assist each. Anzelone was credited with her first collegiate helper while Stonestreet is tied for the team lead with six.
- King has scored in three of the last four games.
- Cleary had an assist for her 96th career point.
- Meghan Lane '24 tied a career high with six caused turnovers and won three draw controls.
- Chloe Chiota '24 scooped up a career-best four ground balls.
- Schwarz, who stopped four shots in the first quarter and three in the fourth, has a 6.43 goals against average and .609 save percentage in 83-plus minutes in goal.
- Katy McCullough paced the Ephs offense with two goals. Zoe Getzin collected a game-high five ground balls and caused two turnovers. Juliet Kilborn won nine draw controls. Anj Raman and Caroline Pratt played one half apiece in goal and combined to make four stops.
