CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Emma Tansky '25 pitched a complete game and tallied two hits in Game 2 and the Continentals salvaged a split of their non-conference doubleheader with the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Wednesday, March 27.
Season Update
- Hamilton (10-8 overall) has won five of its last seven contests with an 8-1 triumph in the nightcap. The games were originally scheduled to be played at Cortland, so the Continentals batted first.
- Cortland, which is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, was a 5-4 winner in the opener and moved to 10-2.
Game 1
How It Happened
- Hamilton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning powered by a leadoff triple to center by Jordan Merklin '26 and a double to right center by Gabby Garrison '27.
- The Red Dragons countered with two runs in the bottom half.
- The Continentals evened the score in the fourth on four hits. Natalie Beebe '24 hit a one-out single to right field, Alison Zorn '26 singled down the left field line and Gaby Guerra '27 knocked a single up the middle to load the bases. With two outs, Merklin brought Beebe home on another single up the middle.
- Hamilton took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on two hits and a pair of walks. Alexis Mayer '26 drew a walk and Hadley Rogers '26 made things exciting with an RBI double to right center. Zorn drove in Rogers on a single to left field.
- Cortland responded with a three-run blast by McKenna Barry in the bottom half.
Notes
- Merklin went 3-for-4 and leads the team with three triples on the season.
- Zorn finished with three hits including a double.
- Beebe tallied two singles.
- Charlie Quinn '25 singled.
- Gina Meyers and Shannon Scotto contributed two hits apiece for Cortland.
- Barry (6-0) allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks and struck out one in three innings of relief.
Game 2
How It Happened
- Hamilton took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third on a trio of hits. Mayer smacked a single to left field on the first pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Quinn walked and both Mayer and Quinn moved into scoring position after a double steal. Zorn batted Mayer in on a single to the gap in right center. Taylor Santulli '25 drove in Quinn on a groundout to second, and Tansky's infield single scored Zorn.
- The Continentals doubled their score with another three runs on two doubles and two singles in the fourth inning. Garrison singled to left, Mayer doubled to left center and Zorn scored Garrison on a single to right. Santulli ripped a two-run double down the right field line with one out.
- Hamilton added two more runs in the fifth on three hits. Garrison led off with her third hit of the game, Mayer singled to left and both advanced to scoring position on a passed ball. With two outs, Santulli drove in two on a single to right center.
- Cortland struck first with one run in the bottom of the second on one hit and a sacrifice bunt.

- Mayer racked up three hits, including her seventh double of the season.
- Garrison went 3-for-5 and scored two runs.
- Zorn plated two runs on two hits and scored twice.
- Tansky had two singles. She improved to 4-2 on the season with a complete-game effort, allowing one run on five hits and a walk and striking out three batters.

Hamilton returns to NESCAC play on Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader against Williams College (6-5 overall) at Loop Road Athletic Complex, starting at noon.
