Baseball falls to Oswego State, Sattinger ’24 homers

Continentals scored seven of their 10 runs in the final inning

CLINTON, N.Y. – Oswego State racked up 18 hits and the Lakers posted a 19-10 non-conference win over the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Wednesday, March 27. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton moved to 6-5 overall. 
  • Oswego (5-7) is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference. 
How It Happened
  • Oswego took a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat on a single, one walk and two hit batsmen. 
  • The Lakers held a 5-0 lead after four runs on four hits and an error in the second inning. 
  • Hamilton got on the board with one run in the bottom half on two hits. Charlie O'Brien '24 led off with a double to left center and Taylor Kaufman '26 batted him in on a sacrifice fly to deep center. 
  • The Continentals narrowed its deficit to two runs with a pair in the third. Jackson Sattinger '24 launched a leadoff home run over the left center fence. Shane Dux '24 reached on a fielding error and scored on a double to center by O'Brien. 
  • Oswego added one run in the fourth, eight in the fifth and four more in the sixth for an 18-3 cushion. 
  • The Lakers scored its final run in the eighth on three hits. 
  • The Continentals refused to go down without a fight as they exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the ninth on five hits, three walks, a sacrifice fly and one hit batsman. The bases were loaded with no outs after Jeremy Diaz '27 walked, Ryan Gawley '27 singled through the left side and Nicholas Sticka '27 was hit by a pitch. Gianni DiCerbo '27 roped the ball up the middle, scoring Diaz. Chester Boynton '27 hit a sacrifice fly out to right that plated Gawley and Lucas Herman '26 nailed a one-run single to left center. Matt Kinne '25 kept things going with the second walk of the inning. After an Oswego pitching change, Jackson Johns '24 sent the ball back up the middle, scoring both DiCerbo and Herman. Hamilton had worked its way through the lineup and Diaz zipped a two-run triple that rolled to the fence in right field.

  • Five of Hamilton's 12 hits went for extra bases.
  • Sattinger smacked his fourth home run of the season. 
  • Johns drove in two runs on two hits.
  • O'Brien went 2-for-3 with two doubles. 
  • Carter Chambers '25 finished with two hits. 
  • Michael Tallarida '26 notched his third double of the season. 
  • DiCerbo and Gawley collected their first collegiate hits. 
  • Oswego's Daniel Winchester tallied three hits, a team-best four runs batted in, a walk and a stolen base. 
  • Jacob Levine and Dylan Rosenberg both knocked in three runs on one hit. Rosenberg's hit was a triple.
  • CJ McCarthy and Owen Parliament tallied two hits apiece. 
  • Nick Cody earned the win giving up three runs on five hits and two walks and striking out five batters in 4.1 innings pitched.

The Continentals host Middlebury College (8-6 overall) for their NESCAC West Division opener on Friday, March 29 at 4 p.m.
