Men's lacrosse explodes for 21 goals in NESCAC win over Bates

Heher '25 scored a career-high half-dozen in the Continentals' 21-8 victory

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Will Heher '25 scored a career-high six goals and the Continentals cruised to a 21-8 NESCAC win over the Bates College Bobcats at Hamilton's rainy and cold Steuben Field on Saturday, March 2.
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals were playing their season opener and playing on Steuben Field for the first time since 2019.
  • Bates (1-2 overall) was playing its first NESCAC game this season after opening with two overtime contests against non-conference opponents.
 

How It Happened

  • Hamilton scored the first three goals and never looked back. The Continentals led 6-1 after one quarter.
  • After a man-up goal by the Bobcats' TJ Underhill early in the second quarter, Hamilton ran off eight goals in a row for a 14-2 advantage just 27 seconds into the third quarter.
  • The Continentals took a 17-3 lead on the goal of the afternoon by Jesse Delinsky '26 with 8:46 left in the third. Thomas Healy '26 had the ball behind the goal and passed to Delinsky, who was cutting from right to left in front of the goal. Delinsky caught the pass, took a couple steps and snapped a shot behind his head past the goalie.
  • Hamilton led 18-5 after three quarters and took their largest lead of 15 goals after two straight by Milo Trabulsy '25 in the first five minutes of the fourth.
  • John McKinnon '27 rounded out the scoring for the Continentals on his first collegiate goal with 6:04 remaining.
 

Notes

  • Healy scored three goals and set career highs with four assists and seven points.
  • Delinsky, who finished his first year with two helpers, registered three goals and two assists against Bates.
  • Frank Coyle '26 tallied four goals for Hamilton. Coyle's fourth goal gave the Continentals a 7-2 lead with 11:42 to go in the second quarter.
  • Justin Pearl '25 recorded three points on two goals and an assist.
  • Christian Byrne '24 passed out three assists – his highest total since March 19, 2022.
  • Trabulsy increased his career goal total from one to three.
  • Ryan Howard '25 and Zach Lucchini '25 picked up their second career assists.
  • Jack Fried '25 made 13 saves and allowed just five goals in 49-plus minutes.
  • Reece Hickey '26 won 14 of 23 faceoffs and scooped up 10 ground balls. Healy and Delinsky added four ground balls apiece.
  • Underhill and Connor Hartman paced the Bates offense with a goal and an assist apiece.
  • Miles Schmidt won half of his 26 faceoffs and collected seven ground balls.
  • Cooper Lance contributed a goal and six ground balls.
  • Andrew Toland stopped 16 shots.
  • Hamilton held a commanding 61-38 shot advantage and scored on 4 of 6 extra-man opportunities.
  • The Bobcats were successful on 14 of 23 clear attempts.
  • The Continentals finished with their most goals in a game since they also scored 21 against Wells College on April 27, 2010.
 

Next Game

Hamilton makes the short trip to Utica University where the teams will play for the Contineer Cup on Tuesday, March 5 at 5 p.m.
