CLERMONT, Fla. – Hamilton College's
Emma Tansky '25 tallied nine strikeouts and the Continentals outlasted the SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinals 5-4 in nine innings at Legends Way Ballfields on Monday, March 18.
Season Update
Hamilton (6-6 overall) fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater 11-7 in the afternoon before picking up the extra-innings win over Plattsburgh in the nightcap. The Continentals are back in action with a doubleheader on Friday, March 22 at Wesleyan University for their NESCAC opener starting at noon.

How It Happened
- Entering the top of the ninth inning with the score tied at 3-3, Tansky was placed on second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Merklin '26. Sofia Santana '26 laid down a bunt and the bases were loaded after a high infield pop-up that stayed fair and allowed Alexis Mayer '26 to take first. Natalie Beebe '24 knocked in Tansky on a fielder's choice and Santana scored on a sacrifice fly by Alison Zorn '26.
- The Cardinals plated one run on three hits in the bottom of the ninth. Plattsburgh had the bases loaded with one out, but Tansky dealt her ninth strikeout of the night and forced a fly out to center that ended the game.
- Tiebreaker rules were in effect in the top of the eighth inning for Hamilton. Zorn was placed on second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Charlie Quinn '25 and scored on a single to left field by Ella Heftved '25.
- Plattsburgh countered with one run on two hits in the bottom half.
- The Continentals struck first with one run in the opening inning on hits by Merklin and Zorn and a fielding error.
- The Cardinals quickly knotted the score in the bottom of the first on two hits.
- Plattsburgh took a 2-1 lead with another run in the second on a single and an error.
- The Continentals finally tied the score at 2-2 in the sixth after a lead-off single through the left side by Quinn who advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Heftved. Gabby Garrison '27 drove in Quinn on a triple to the fence in right center.

- Garrison's triple was her first collegiate hit. She led Hamilton with three hits.
- Zorn drove in a team-best two runs.
- Gaby Guerra '27, Santana and Mayer collected one hit each.
- Tansky (3-1) pitched a complete game allowing four unearned runs and one earned run on nine hits and two walks.
- Plattsburgh, a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, dipped to 1-3.
- Sara Isaacs led the Cardinals with three hits and two RBI.
- Gwen Noll tallied two hits.
Wisconsin-Whitewater
How It Happened
- Wisconsin-Whitewater had a hot start with six runs on five hits in the first inning.
- Hamilton cut its deficit in half on four hits in the bottom of the third. Merklin doubled to left field and advanced to third on a single to center by Julia Hacker '27. Mayer plated two runs on a double to left center and scored on another double to left center by Hadley Rogers '26.
- The Warhawks scored one run in the fourth on one hit.
- The Continentals came within 7-6 with three more runs in the bottom half on three hits, including a two-run blast by Mayer.
- Whitewater created distance with four runs on four hits in the fifth.
- Hamilton scored its final run in the sixth on one hit. Santana hit a one-out double to the left field fence and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Notes
- Hamilton and Whitewater combined to rack up 23 hits.
- Mayer went 3-for-4 at the plate and was a triple short of the cycle. She tied a career high with four RBI.
- Merklin finished 2-for-4 with a double, scored twice and stole her sixth base of the season.
- Zorn, Guerra and Madison Hinojos '24 tallied one hit each.

- Ava Kostroski led the Warhawks with four hits. She drove in two runs and crossed the plate three times.
- Taylor Koehler plated a team-best three runs on a bases-clearing double.
- Bella Eggert had two hits and scored twice.
- Whitewater's pitching combined for five strikeouts. Maddy Anderson earned the win in the circle allowing one run on one hit and striking out three batters in 2.1 innings pitched.
