Baseball wraps up Virginia trip with convincing 17-4 win

Dux '24 posted Continentals' first four-hit game this season

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Hamilton College's Shane Dux '24 went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in and three runs scored in the Continentals' 17-4 win over the Eastern Mennonite University Royals at EMU Baseball Field on Thursday, March 14.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (3-4 overall) put an emphatic end to its three-game losing skid. The Continentals finished with two wins in their five-game trip through Virginia.
  • Eastern Mennonite (3-9) is 0-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Royals dropped their sixth straight game.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton held a 3-1 edge after four innings but scored three runs in the top of the fifth and broke the game open with five in the sixth.
  • After Eastern Mennonite plated three runs and pulled within 11-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Continentals exploded for six runs on six hits in the eighth.
  • Two hit batsmen and three stolen bases led up to a run-scoring single by Michael Tallarida '26 in the first inning.
  • Jackson Sattinger '24 and Lucas Herman '26 singled in runs in the third for a 3-0 advantage.
  • Dux lined a double down the left field line and drove in two runs in the fifth. He later scored on a wild pitch.
  • Hamilton's first two batters reached base in the sixth and Sattinger followed with a three-run blast over the fence in left field. Carter Chambers '25 added an RBI single to center for a 10-1 advantage, and Alfonso Rada '27 drove in another run with a single through the left side.
  • The Continentals poured it on in the eighth. Nicholas Sticka '27 drove in a run with a one-out double to center, and that was immediately followed by a two-run double to left by Taylor Kaufman '26. Greg Kopp '25 plated Kaufman with a single and, after two walks and a strikeout, Dux cracked a bases-loaded double that completed the scoring.

Notes

  • Dux's four RBI are a career high while the four hits and three runs tied his career bests.
  • Kaufman went 3-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored. He also stole three bases and was hit by a pitch twice.
  • Kopp finished with three hits and has seven in the last four games.
  • Rada posted his first three-hit game at Hamilton as he went 3-for-4 with a walk.
  • Sattinger recorded his fourth multi-hit game and second home run this season. He drove in four runs and has eight career homers.
  • Tallarida had two hits, including a double, and a walk. He leads the team with a 1.433 OPS and six of his nine hits have gone for extra bases.
  • Sticka's double was his first collegiate hit.
  • Kyle Egidio '27 (1-0) picked up the win in his first start for the Continentals. Egidio pitched three shutout innings, allowed one hit and walked two.
  • Eddie Taylor '25 wrapped up the victory with a hitless eighth inning.
