FERRUM, Va. – Ferrum College's Mason Moffett drove in three runs, including the game-winner with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Panthers pulled out a 6-5 win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Ferrum's Panther Field on Wednesday, March 13.
Season Update
- Hamilton (2-4 overall) lost for the third straight time on its Virginia road trip.
- The Panthers (6-8) are 0-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
How It Happened
- Clayton Michael led off the bottom of the ninth with a single between shortstop and third base and stole second base. After the next batter flew out to left field, Moffett drove in Michael with another base hit through the left side.
- The Continentals tied the score in the top of the ninth on a three-run homer to right field by Michael Tallarida '26. Taylor Kaufman '26 and Jackson Sattinger '24 had led off the inning with singles.
- Ferrum led 5-0 through four innings. Hamilton gave up three runs in the first inning for the second day in a row, and the Panthers added single runs in the second and fourth innings.
- Greg Kopp '25 drove in Kenny Rix '25 with the Continentals' first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth. Rix reached base on an infield throwing error leading off the inning.
- Hamilton's Shane Dux '24 doubled down the left field line in the sixth and scored on a two-out double to left by Charlie O'Brien '24.
Notes
- Sattinger finished with a season-high three hits and leads the team with a .421 batting average (8-19).
- Tallarida added a double and a walk to his three-run round-tripper. Five of his seven hits have been for extra bases, including three home runs. He leads the team with a 1.450 OPS.
- Jeremy Diaz '27 smacked a double for his first extra-base hit with the Continentals.
- Kopp has four hits in his last six at-bats.
- All three of O'Brien's hits this season are doubles.
- Rix singled for his first hit of 2024.
- Luke Beyer '27 got Hamilton out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the third with two strikeouts and a fly ball.
- Michael led the Ferrum offense with four hits. Russell Golembe chipped in two singles and two RBI. Moffett's run-scoring double in the first was the only extra-base hit for the Panthers.

The Continentals wrap up their five-game, four school Virginia road swing at Eastern Mennonite University on Thursday, March 14. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
