LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee University's Frankie Maloof hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and the Generals went on to an 8-2 win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Washington and Lee's Cap'n Dick Smith Field on Tuesday, March 12.
Season Update
- Hamilton (2-3 overall) tied its season-low for runs in a game.
- The Generals (8-5), who are 3-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, extended their win streak to three games.
How It Happened
- Washington and Lee added a run in the second on an RBI double by Nick Lagges.
- The Generals pulled away with two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Ethan Zulueta singled in a run in both innings.
- The Continentals were still within striking distance in the top of the sixth trailing 4-0 when Jackson Johns '24 led off the inning by reaching first on a throwing error. Johns stole second and went to third on a two-out single by Greg Kopp '25. Ben Sundell ended the threat by striking out the next batter.
- Hamilton finally broke through with two runs in the eighth inning. Aden Soroca '27 reached on an infield single with two outs and stole second. Lucas Herman '26 walked and both runners advanced one base on a balk. Soroca scored the Continentals' first run on a wild pitch and pinch-hitter Quinn Perkins '25 plated Herman with a single through the left side.
Notes
- Hamilton outhit Washington and Lee 8-6, but the Generals drew nine walks and stole eight bases.
- Kopp finished with two singles for his first multi-hit game this season.
- Ethan Righter '27 went 2-for-2 with a walk as he collected his first collegiate hit.
- Perkins picked up his second career hit and second career RBI.
- Soroca and Jeremy Diaz '27 recorded their first hits with the Continentals.
- Peter Jones '25 (0-2) allowed just two hits and struck out four in 4.2 innings, but walked three and hit a batter.
