Men’s basketball outlasted by Bowdoin, Morgan ’25 scores 22

Junior guard scored 20-plus points for the 11th time this season for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Bowdoin College's Michael Simonds tallied 17 points and the Polar Bears posted a 61-57 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday, Feb. 9. 
 
Season Update
  • With one game left in the regular season, Hamilton (10-13, 3-6 NESCAC) is in a three-way tie for seventh place with Colby College and Wesleyan University in the conference standings. The top eight teams qualify for the NESCAC Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 17. 
  • Bowdoin (8-15, 2-7) has won two of its last three contests. The Polar Bears are in 10th place in the conference standings. 
How It Happened
  • Bowdoin's Kevin Reeves downed a pair at the line to cut its deficit to three points at 53-50 with five minutes remaining in the second half. 
  • Reeves hit another shot at the line and Michael Simonds buried a 3-ball to give the Polar Bears a 54-53 lead with 3:46 to go. 
  • Teja Singh '25 nailed a jumper in the paint for a 57-56 edge with just 48 seconds left. 
  • Bowdoin answered with a jumper by Afamdi Achufusi for a 58-57 advantage with 34 seconds remaining. 
  • Hamilton was 0 of 3 from the floor in the final 15 seconds. 
  • The Polar Bears went 3-for-4 at the line in the last 13 seconds for the final margin. 
  • Hank Morgan '25 scored the first basket of the second half for a 32-23 lead. 
  • Trailing 41-32, Bowdoin sparked a 9-0 rally to even the score at 41-41 with 12:30 left in the second stanza. 
  • Neither team led by more than three points the next five minutes until Singh hit a step-back 3-pointer and Garret Keyhani '26 made a free throw for a 53-48 lead with 6:54 to go. 
  • Hamilton opened the scoring on its first possession on a jumper by Singh. 
  • Bowdoin used a free throw, layup and jump shot to take a 5-2 lead with 15:15 on the clock. The Polar Bears stretched its lead to five points at 7-2 on a pair of shots at the stripe by Andrew Szwez. 
  • Over four minutes since their opening basket, the Continentals ran off nine straight points for a 13-7 lead with 10:38 remaining. Morgan, Singh and Owen Kane '25 all scored during the rally. 
  • The Polar Bears got as close as one point at 18-17 on a 3-ball by Ben Chilson with 4:27 left. 
  • The Continentals hit a trio of 3-pointers over the next two minutes for a 28-19 advantage with 2:12 to go. 
  • Szwez cut Hamilton's lead to seven at 30-23 at the break. 
  • Hamilton shot 39.2 percent (20-51) from the field, including 9 of 28 from long distance, and went 8-for-14 at the line. 
  • Bowdoin shot 30.2 percent (16-53) from the floor, including 18.5 percent (5-27) from beyond the arc, and went 24-for-31 at the charity stripe. 
  • The Polar Bears owned a 47-27 advantage on the glass and tallied 22 points off 13 Hamilton turnovers. 
Notes
  • Morgan tied a career high with five 3-pointers and led all players with 22 points. He added five rebounds and two assists. 
  • Singh went 2-for-3 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points. 
  • Kane chipped in nine points and four rebounds. 
  • Jalen Reese '27 grabbed five boards, which was tied for most on the team. 
  • Sharif Nelson '26 made a team-high three steals.
  • Simonds added seven rebounds and two steals for the Polar Bears. 
  • Chilson had 12 points and five rebounds. 
  • Reeves contributed 11 points and a team-high 15 rebounds. 
  • Achufusi added nine points and a team-best four assists. 
Next Game

Hamilton hosts Colby College (11-12, 3-6) in its final regular season contest on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. The Continentals will honor Brendan Gagan '24 and Christian McDaniel '24 in a Senior Day ceremony at halftime.
