Men’s basketball pulls away from Colby in second half

Continentals shot 58.6 percent from the floor after halftime

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Hank Morgan '25 and Teja Singh '25 tallied 22 points apiece and lifted the Continentals to an 89-58 NESCAC win over the Colby College Mules on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Feb. 10. 
 
Season Update
  • The Continentals (11-13, 4-6 NESCAC) finished the regular season in a tie for seventh place in the conference standings. 
  • Colby (11-13, 3-7) ended the season with a three-game losing streak.
How It Happened
  • Hamilton used a 14-0 run in the opening minutes of the second stanza for a 56-35 advantage with 13:56 remaining. Morgan ignited the surge on a 3-ball and Christian McDaniel '24 capped the rally on a jumper in the paint. 
  • McDaniel gave the Continentals a 28-point lead at 68-40 on a 3-pointer with just under 10 minutes to go. 
  • Hamilton gathered its largest lead of 35 points on a jumper by Connor Jenkins '27 at 86-51 with 3:08 left. 
  • Trailing 6-5, the Continentals sparked a quick 8-0 run for a 13-6 lead with 14:20 on the clock. Singh knocked down a shot from 3-point land, Morgan nailed a jumper from the elbow and Garret Keyhani '26 netted another 3-ball during the run. 
  • Colby's Lucas Green converted on a pair at the line to cut Hamilton's lead to four at 19-15 with 9:31 to go. 
  • Hamilton started to pull away with an 11-3 spurt that gave the Continentals a double-digit lead for the first time. Singh started the rally with a trifecta and ended it with a jumper for a 30-18 advantage with 6:42 to go. 
  • Graham Robinson '25 proved himself in the paint with a contested layup and Singh put the crowd on its feet with another shot from long range for a 35-20 lead with 3:05 remaining. 
  • The Mules closed out the final minutes on a 10-3 run to slash its deficit to eight at 38-30 at the break.  
  • Hamilton shot 46.3 percent (31-67) from the field, including 12 of 31 from 3-point range, and went 15-for-23 at the line. 
  • Colby shot 30.4 percent (17-56) from the floor, including 31.3 percent (10-32) from beyond the arc, and 70 percent (14-20) at the stripe.
  • Hamilton grabbed a season-best 51 boards and owned a commanding 51-29 advantage on the glass. 
  • The Continentals collected 22 points off 17 Colby turnovers. 
Notes
  • The two teams met last season in the conference championship with Hamilton prevailing, 71-59. 
  • Morgan grabbed a team-best nine rebounds and added three assists, two blocked shots and two steals. He is second in the NESCAC with 18.5 points per game. 
  • Singh was 6 of 10 from 3-point range and made two steals. 
  • McDaniel registered career highs with 14 points and three assists. 
  • Keyhani contributed seven points, eight boards and two blocked shots. 
  • Will Holmes '27 and Sharif Nelson '26 chipped in seven points apiece off the bench. 
  • Hamilton's two seniors -- McDaniel and Brendan Gagan '24 -- were honored at the beginning of halftime.  
  • Green paced Colby with 18 points and three assists.
  • Liam O'Connell tallied 14 points and two steals. 
  • Sam Hinman added nine points off the bench as he was 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.
Next Game
Hamilton will play an opponent to be determined on Saturday, Feb. 17 in the NESCAC Championship quarterfinals.
