Three Hamilton College women's hockey players were honored by the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) when the NESCAC announced its 2023-24 end-of-season awards on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Teagan Brown '27 (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) was voted the conference's Rookie of the Year by the head coaches, and Abby Smith '24 (Newton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy [N.H.]) and Sami Quackenbush '24 (Marshfield, Mass./Tabor Academy) made the all-NESCAC first team. The postseason honors are the first for all three athletes.

Brown, who is a goaltender, is the fourth Hamilton player named NESCAC Rookie of the Year and the first since Nancy Loh '23 in 2019. In 13 conference starts in goal, Brown ranked third in the NESCAC with a 1.20 goals against average and fourth with a .946 save percentage. For the season she owns a 1.14 goals against average and .950 save percentage with five shutouts and a 10-4-4 record in 18 starts.

Smith ended up tied for ninth with 10 points on five goals and five assists in 16 conference games, and tied for the NESCAC lead with three game-winning goals. In 25 games the winger leads the Continentals with 17 points and five game-winning goals, including two in overtime.

Quackenbush led a Hamilton defense that ranked third with 1.50 goals allowed per game in conference play, and gave up just three power-play goals in 44 penalty kill attempts. She leads the Continentals with 12 assists in 24 games and is third with 14 points and 26 blocked shots. Five of those helpers came in conference contests during the regular season.

Nationally ranked No. 8 Hamilton (14-5-6 overall) travels to Amherst, Mass., for the 2024 NESCAC Women's Hockey Championship and will play Amherst College at Amherst's Orr Rink in a semifinal on Friday, March 1 at 4 p.m. If the Continentals win they play in the championship final at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, and the winner of that game earns the conference's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Championship.
