Brown '27 posts second straight shutout for No. 8 women's hockey

Continentals defeated Connecticut College 2-0, improved to 13-4-4

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Teagan Brown '27 stopped all 20 shots on goal and the Continentals shut out the Connecticut College Camels 2-0 in NESCAC action inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday, Feb. 9.

Season Update

  • The eighth-ranked Continentals (13-4-4, 6-4-3 NESCAC) are unbeaten in their last three games, including two straight wins by 2-0 scores.
  • Conn. College (7-9-5, 2-9-2) lost its third consecutive road contest.

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first period, the teams played deep into the second without finding the back of the net.
  • Claire McGennis '24 finally put Hamilton on the scoreboard with 1:29 left in the second. Abby Smith '24 forced a turnover below the goal line in the Continentals' attacking zone and skated up to the point. Smith's wrist shot was stopped but McGennis was waiting for the rebound in the low slot. Her shot from point-blank range squirted under the goaltender and over the goal line.
  • Lydia Bullock '26 notched the clinching goal with 2:55 remaining in the third period. Bullock intercepted a pass in Hamilton's defensive zone and weaved her way through neutral ice. She unleashed a rising wrist shot from near the point that snuck under the crossbar and inside the left post.
  • The Camels pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater when the Continentals called their timeout with 1:08 to go. Conn. College had three shot attempts in the final minute including two that Brown turned away.
  • The Camels had a 5-on-3 power play for 45 seconds midway through the second period but came up empty. Hamilton allowed just one shot on goal as the Continentals killed back-to-back penalties for 3:15 straight.

Notes

  • Brown hasn't allowed a goal in more than 164 minutes. She posted her second straight shutout and fifth this season in 18 starts. Brown lowered her goals against average to 1.14 and raised her save percentage to .950.
  • McGennis is tied for third in the conference with 12 goals.
  • Bullock tallied her third goal this season and her first since Jan. 6.
  • Smith picked up her sixth assist and is second on the team with 13 points.
  • Charlotte Harris had four of Conn. College's 16 blocked shots.
  • Maeve Corcoran made 15 stops in her first appearance in goal this season for the Camels.
  • Hamilton has won the last four meetings with Conn. College. The Continentals last blanked the Camels on Feb. 16, 2019.
