Sheridan '26 lifts women's hockey to first shutout this season

Junior goaltender stopped all 23 shots she faced in a 2-0 win at SUNY Canton

CANTON, N.Y. - A stellar performance by Hamilton College goaltender Evie Sheridan '26 helped lift the Continentals to a 2-0 non-conference win over the SUNY Canton Roos inside Canton's Terry Martin Ice Arena on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (2-4-0 overall) is receiving votes in the USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll.
  • SUNY Canton (4-7-0) owns a 3-4 record in the SUNYAC.

How It Happened

  • The Continentals opened the scoring with 49.3 seconds left in the first period. Grace Puskar '27 possessed the puck in the left corner of the offensive zone and passed it up to Grace Crowley '26. Crowley tried to take the puck into the middle of the zone when two Canton players swarmed her in the left faceoff circle near the blue line. Crowley spun out of the double team and flicked the puck behind her to Sophie Berghammer '26, who hammered a shot from near the blue line. The puck grazed the glove of the Canton goaltender and landed in the top-right corner of the net.
  • After a scoreless second period, the Continentals sealed the win with 24.4 seconds remaining in the third on a goal by Lydia Bullock '26. The goal came after Canton swapped their goaltender for an extra player, hoping to tie the score in the final minute. After a Canton player took a slap shot from the left side near the blue line, Sheridan deflected the puck to the right side of the ice. Bullock collected the puck against the boards and squeezed through two Canton players before she made a clean break towards the goal. Bullock skated into the middle of the neutral zone and swiftly guided the puck into Canton's empty net.
  • The Continentals outshot the Roos 38-37 with 28 of those on goal compared to SUNY Canton's 23.

Notes

  • Crowley registered her team-high third assist of the season and won 11-of-21 faceoffs.
  • Puskar picked up her second assist and third point of the season.
  • Berghammer tallied her first goal of the season and third of her collegiate career. The defender also blocked three shots.
  • Bullock recorded her team-best third goal of the season.
  • Sheridan made 11 of her 23 saves in the third period, and recorded the sixth shutout of her collegiate career.
  • The Continentals are 4-0 all-time against the Roos.
  • SUNY Canton goaltender Molly Lenihan stopped 26 shots.
