CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Kendall Harris '27 tallied 25 points and 13 rebounds and the Continentals posted a 67-65 overtime win against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-1 overall) extended its win streak to four.
- Rochester, which is a member of the University Athletic Association, moved to 5-4 overall.
How It Happened
- Taylor Lambo '26 opened the extra period with a pair of free throws for a 62-60 edge with 3:45 to go.
- Lambo converted two more shots at the charity stripe and put the Continentals ahead 64-60 with 2:26 left.
- Rochester's Franki Gomez hit a 3-pointer and Rylee Drahos hit two shots at the line for a 65-64 Yellowjackets lead with 32 seconds remaining.
- The Continentals called a timeout to draw up a play and advance the ball to the frontcourt. After a jump ball that stayed with the Continentals, Hamilton had a baseline out-of-bounds opportunity with 15.4 seconds to go. Hannah Bernstein '28 passed it in to Tessa Cole '25 in the right corner, and Cole was unfazed by her defender as she drove into the lane for the go-ahead layup with 12 seconds remaining .
- Miscommunication by the Rochester offense led to a crucial turnover with 6.6 seconds left. The Yellowjackets fouled as soon as Hamilton inbounded the ball, sending Lambo to the line for the third time in the overtime period. Lambo missed the first attempt but drained the second for a 67-65 lead.
- The Yellowjackets used their final timeout to advance the ball with 6.1 seconds left. Rochester attempted to drive down the middle but was called for traveling with 0.8 seconds left.
- Zoe Myslewicz '28 took on the challenge in the paint with a right-handed hook shot that gave the Continentals a 56-46 lead with 6:08 to go in the fourth quarter.
- Rochester's Abby Gress made a layup and Gomez hit a 3-pointer that inched the Yellowjackets within five points with just under five minutes left.
- The Yellowjackets evened the score at 58-58 after a steal and fast-break layup with 1:56 remaining.
- Rochester took a 60-58 lead on a layup by Erin Lillis with 27 seconds remaining.
- The Continentals had the ball with 16 seconds left, but after a missed shot and a Hamilton foul, Rochester was sent to the free-throw line for two attempts. The Yellowjackets missed both shots at the line, Lambo secured the defensive rebound and the Continentals called a timeout to advance the ball.
- The Continentals inbounded the ball from the left side, Cole took charge and passed the ball to Harris near the right wing with seven seconds left. Harris faked out her defender, drove left and left the crowd in anticipation with a step-back jumper from the line that grazed the backboard, danced around the rim and eventually fell through for the game-tying points with half a second left.
- Trailing 7-5 with 4:01 left in the first quarter, the Continentals sparked a 6-0 run for an 11-7 lead.
- Rochester responded with a layup and a 3-pointer and narrowed its deficit to one point at 13-12 after the opening quarter.
- Hamilton outscored Rochester 20-9 in the second frame for a 33-21 lead at the break.
- After giving up the first basket of the third quarter, Hamilton scored the next eight points for its largest lead of 18 at 41-23 with 6:48 to go. Cole sparked the run with a 3-pointer, Harris nailed a turnaround jumper and Althea Hill '26 capped the spurt with a basket from long range from the right wing.
- The Yellowjackets chipped away at the Continentals' lead, but Hill buried another contested 3-pointer – this time from the left wing -- for a 45-30 lead with 3:58 remaining.
- Rochester closed out the quarter on a 6-0 run and sliced Hamilton's lead back down to single digits at 47-38.
Notes
- The Continentals picked up their third straight win over the Yellowjackets.
- Harris registered her third 20-plus point game this season and posted her second straight double-double. She filled the stat sheet with four assists, four steals and two blocks.
- Lambo tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds. She passed out four assists and made two steals.
- Hill scored a season-best nine points on a trio of 3-pointers and made a career-high three steals.
- Cole registered eight points, five rebounds and two steals.
- Myslewicz collected nine boards off the bench.
- Gress paced Rochester with 18 points. She added eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
- Bridget Miller finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.
- Lillis had 11 points, four assists and three steals.
- Both teams struggled with their shooting as Hamilton was at 32.4 percent (23-71) from the floor and Rochester was at 34.2 percent (27-79). The Yellowjackets were just 5-for-12 at the free-throw line. Hamilton finished 14-for-21 at the charity stripe.
- The Continentals owned a 58-48 advantage on the boards.
