Women’s basketball rallies past Geneseo, Harris ’27 scores 27

Hills ’28 recorded a season-best 16 points off the Continentals’ bench

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Kendall Harris '27 poured in a season-high 27 points and the Continentals scored the last seven points in their 67-64 non-conference win against the SUNY Geneseo Knights on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Tuesday, Dec. 3. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-1 overall) celebrated its home opener with its third straight win. 
  • Geneseo, a member of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference, moved to 4-4 overall. 

How It Happened

  • Trailing 64-60 with 1:41 left, Harris sparked a 7-0 rally with a 3-pointer. Erica Hills '28 forced a crucial steal and made a fade-away off the glass for a 65-64 edge with 35 seconds remaining.  
  • With time running out, the Knights sent Harris to the free-throw line where she sunk both shots for a 67-64 lead with just eight seconds left.
  • Geneseo called a timeout to advance the ball to the frontcourt, but the Knights' final 3-point attempt was no good. 
  • Hills nailed a 3-pointer for a 53-52 Continentals lead with 8:51 to go in the fourth quarter. 
  • The Knights claimed the next seven points for its largest lead of six at 59-53 with 6:12 left.
  • Hills scored on a layup and buried a shot from long distance that sliced the Continentals' deficit to three points at 61-58 with 5:11 remaining. 
  • Hamilton scored the first six points and led 13-2 after a 3-ball by Harris, a layup by Taylor Lambo '26, and two made free throws by Althea Hill '26 less than three minutes into the opening quarter. 
  • A steal and a layup by Hannah Bernstein '28 gave the Continentals an 18-8 lead with a little under five minutes remaining. 
  • The Knights countered with the next six points, but the Continentals closed out the quarter with a 7-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Tessa Cole '25 for a 25-14 cushion. 
  • The Continentals gathered their largest lead of 12 points twice midway through the second quarter. 
  • Geneseo took off on an 11-0 spurt and narrowed its deficit to one point at 36-35 heading into the break. Hamilton was held scoreless for the final three-plus minutes of the half.
  • The third quarter featured three ties and six lead changes and neither team led by more than three points. 
  • The Continentals shot 40.6 percent (26-64) from the floor and were 8-for-11 at the charity stripe. 
  • Geneseo shot 41.4 percent (24-58) from the field and was 11-for-15 at the line. 
  • Hamilton owned a 38-35 edge on the glass. 

Notes

  • Harris grabbed 10 rebounds for her ninth career double-double.  
  • Hills notched a season-high 16 points.
  • Lambo finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. She has 18 career double-doubles.
  • Cole chipped in six points and five assists. 
  • Hill added four assists and a team-best three steals. 
  • Audrey Hintz paced Geneseo with 17 points off the bench. 
  • Grace Galgano tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
  • Kristin Suydam contributed 10 points and two blocked shots. 
  • Kiley Snow had seven points and six rebounds. 
  • Mackenzie Reigle passed out a team-best five assists, while Maggie McGrane had three steals. 
  • This marked the first meeting between the two teams since the 1989-90 season. 

Next Game

Hamilton hosts University of Rochester (5-3) for another non-conference matchup on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
