CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College took a double-digit lead midway through the first half after a big run and the Continentals cruised from there to a 73-51 non-conference win against the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 14.
Season Update
- The Continentals (9-1 overall) extended their win streak to eight games. The streak is Hamilton's longest since it started the 2018-19 season 13-0.
- Cortland (2-5) has a 1-1 record in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
How It Happened
- The Red Dragons took their last lead at 5-4 on a 3-pointer by Aaron Coston. The Continentals went on a 16-4 run and led by double digits the rest of the way.
- A jumper in the paint by Teja Singh '25 put Hamilton in front for good at 6-5 with 17:26 left in the first half. Hank Morgan '25 followed with a pair of free throws.
- After a layup by Coston, Garret Keyhani '26 made one for the Continentals and Jalen Reese '27 tipped in a missed jumper by Singh. Keyhani and Reese added layups on consecutive possessions.
- Coston, who scored Cortland's first nine points, made another basket in the paint. A jumper by Matthew Rideout '27 and a layup by Sharif Nelson '26 capped the run as Hamilton enjoyed a 20-9 advantage with 9:54 remaining.
- The Red Dragons didn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the afternoon. The Continentals' Nate Raub '27 finished a 10-0 run with a 3-pointer for a 21-point cushion at 39-18 with 2:13 to go. Raub's basket came after his blocked shot and defensive rebound on the other end of the court.
- Hamilton took a 41-23 lead into the break at halftime. The Continentals scored 11 consecutive points late in the second half and took their largest lead of 29 points at 69-40 with 4:52 left. Reese scored the last four points of the run.
Notes
- Morgan went 7-for-7 at the free-throw line and finished with 14 points. He's 25th on the team's all-time list with 1,185 career points. Morgan is second in the NESCAC with a free throw percentage of 90.2 percent (37-41).
- Singh went 5-for-5 at the line and also scored 14 points. He has 985 career points.
- Reese dropped in a season-high 10 points, tied a career best with three blocked shots and was one rebound short of a double-double in 19 productive minutes off the bench.
- Hamilton blocked a season-high eight shots.
- The Continentals shot 90 percent (18-20) at the free-throw line.
- Hamilton owned a commanding 57-31 advantage on the boards and scored 21 second-chance points to Cortland's four.
- The Red Dragons committed just four turnovers but shot 29.2 percent (19-65) from the field, including 16.7 percent (5-30) from beyond the arc, and 42.1 percent (8-19) at the line.
- Coston led all players with 16 points and Isaiah Warmack added 10 off the bench. Jaylen Warmack handed out five assists.
- The Continentals lead the all-time series with Cortland, 9-2.
