Men’s basketball pushes past Puget Sound, Rideout ’27 scores 17

Sophomore guard netted a career high in points for the Continentals

TACOMA, Wash. – Hamilton College's Matthew Rideout '27 dropped in a career-high 17 points and the Continentals posted a 73-68 win against the University of Puget Sound Loggers at Puget Sound's Memorial Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Nov. 27. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-1 overall) won its fourth consecutive contest.  
  • Puget Sound, which is a member of the Northwest Conference, moved to 3-3 overall. 

How It Happened

  • A 3-pointer by Nate Raub '27 and a jumper by Teja Singh '25 gave the Continentals a 49-40 lead with 14:18 left in the second half.
  • Hamilton stretched its lead to as many as 15 points at 57-42 with 11:11 to go after the Continentals sparked an 8-0 run. Singh, Hank Morgan '25, Garret Keyhani '26 and Jalen Reese '27 chipped in two points each during the spurt.
  • Puget Sound picked up its pace in the final five minutes, cutting the Continentals' lead to two points at 68-66 with 3:07 left after an 8-2 run. 
  • The Loggers closed their margin to just one point at 69-68 with 1:35 to go. 
  • Morgan helped silence the Loggers' comeback with a dunk on one possession and a free throw on the next for a four-point lead with 22 ticks remaining. 
  • After a missed three-point attempt by the Loggers, Keyhani hit one last free throw with 13 seconds left for the final margin.
  • Keyhani gave Hamilton a 5-2 lead on a 3-ball and a jumper in the paint 1:14 into the first half. 
  • The Continentals led the Loggers 19-8 after a trifecta by Morgan with 12:51 left. 
  • Puget Sound took off on a 17-6 run and evened the score at 25-25 with 6:34 remaining. 
  • The contest was tied on two more occasions, including 32-32 with a little under three minutes left in the half. 
  • Rideout gave the Continentals a boost on a late 3-pointer for a 40-35 edge at the break.  

Notes

  • Rideout was 7-of-10 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. He scored 13 points in the first half.
  • Keyhani finished with a season-best 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Singh and Morgan chipped in 10 points and five rebounds apiece. 
  • Raub added a career-high 10 points off the bench. 
  • Owen Kane '25 contributed a season-high nine points. 
  • Liam Ruttledge paced Puget Sound with 14 points.
  • Hugo Rutherfurd tallied 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. 
  • Zane Miller had 13 points and five boards off the bench. 
  • Ian Cook scored 10 points, while Taj Phillips recorded nine points and a game-best four assists and three steals. 
  • Hamilton shot 44.3 percent (27-61) from the field, including 33.3 percent (8-24) from long range, and went 11-for-14 at the free-throw line.
  • Puget Sound shot 45.8 percent (27-59) from the floor, including 40 percent (8-20) from beyond the arc. The Loggers were 6-for-9 at the charity stripe. 
  • The Continentals collected 16 points off turnovers to the Loggers' seven. 
  • The Loggers owned a 32-30 edge on the glass.

Hamilton hosts local opponent Utica University (5-1) for a non-conference matchup inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.
