Men's swimming and diving defeats Colby and Trinity in tri-meet

Continentals captured first place in nine of the swimming events

Matthew Hake '26
WATERVILLE, Maine – Hamilton College finished first in nine events and the men's swimming and diving team swept their two opponents in a tri-meet at Colby College's Aquatics Center on Sunday, Nov. 24.

The Continentals rallied to defeat Colby in both relays with all-American Nathaniel Taft '27 as the anchor. In the 200-yard medley relay Hamilton was 37 one-hundredths of a second behind after 150 yards, but Taft's 20.00-second split in the 50 freestyle gave the Continentals the victory by seven-tenths of a second.

The same scenario played out in the 400 free relay. The Mules led by three-quarters of a second going into the final 100 yards, but Taft turned that deficit into a 2.61-second Hamilton advantage with a split of 44.65 seconds.

Taft dominated in the individual events as well, winning the 100 free by almost two seconds and the 200 free by nearly five seconds. Matthew Hake '26 was on the 200 medley relay with Taft and claimed the top spot in the 50 and 100 breaststroke. Luke Engel '25 was a winner in the 500 and 1,000 free, and Alex Vasquez '27 edged the runner-up by one one-hundredth of a second in the 50 butterfly.
