ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hamilton College dominated in its first game of the season, securing a 73-50 win against Hartwick College in the Oneonta & Hartwick Classic inside Hartwick's Lambros Arena on Friday night, Nov. 15.
Season Update
- The Continentals picked up their seventh straight season-opening win and sixth in a row under Head Coach Mahogany Green.
- Hartwick, a member of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference, dipped to 0-2 overall.
How It Happened
- Hamilton started hot, picking up a 13-2 lead in the first four minutes led by two 3-balls by Tessa Cole '25.
- The Continentals continued to roll, pushing their lead to 22-8 with 1:46 to go in the first quarter.
- Hamilton ended the first quarter up 22-11, cut down just slightly on a 3-pointer by Hartwick's Macy Durkin before a scoreless final minute.
- Hannah Bernstein '28 opened the second quarter with a fast-break layup, but a turnover on the Continentals' next possession set up a Hartwick rebuttal. Bernstein took it personally and, off an Abigael Morin '25 assist, splashed a three just 17 seconds later.
- Hamilton led 35-21 at the half.
- Hamilton opened the third quarter strong, giving up just one Hartwick free throw and then going on a 6-0 run started by an and-one in the paint by Kendall Harris '27.
- Hartwick made two shots in the paint midway through the third quarter, but the Continentals came back strong and racked up a 24-point lead (52-28) with 3:43 left.
- Hartwick's Yadira Smith made a last-second layup and closed out the quarter with Hamilton up 57-38.
- The fourth quarter started well for Hartwick as the Hawks cut Hamilton's lead down to 13 points at 59-46 after an 8-2 run.
- Hamilton responded and went back up by 22 points at 68-46, aided by two layups by Zoe Myslewicz '28.
- Hamilton's Anna Williams '27 had the last laugh, putting up the last five points in the Continentals' 23-point victory.
Notes
- Hamilton won all five meetings with Hartwick during the last seven years.
- Bernstein went 9-of-13 from the field (4-of-6 from three) and finished with a team-high 17 points in her collegiate debut.
- Myslewicz played a massive role in the paint, grabbing 13 of the team's 51 rebounds and putting up Hamilton's second-most point total at 15. She pulled down 10 offensive boards.
- Cole scored all nine of her points in the first quarter.
- The Continentals enjoyed a 51-32 advantage in the glass and shot 52.4 percent (11-21) from beyond the arc.
- Hartwick's scoring leader was Daniella DeBiase with 12 points.
- Yadira Smith filled the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
