No. 10 women's hockey drops season opener against Middlebury

Bullock '26 scored for the Continentals in their 3-1 setback

CLINTON, N.Y. – Middlebury College's Sophia Merageas made 28 saves and the Panthers defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 3-1 in a NESCAC game played inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night, Nov. 15.

Season Update

Both teams were playing their 2024-25 season opener.

How It Happened

  • Callia Ferraris gave Middlebury a 1-0 lead 5:23 into the first period when she scored on a rebound after a shot by Sabrina Kim was stopped by goaltender Teagan Brown '27.
  • The Continentals tied the score with 6:23 left in the second period. Ava Romano '27 gained control of a loose puck near center ice and took it down to the bottom of the right faceoff circle near the boards. Romano passed the puck back to Lydia Bullock '26, who was skating through the high slot, and Bullock one-timed a shot from just inside that right faceoff circle. Her shot beat Merageas on the blocker side.
  • Jordan Hower scored the go-ahead goal with 2:37 remaining in the second, and Maeve McAdams added some insurance with her goal 14:07 into the third period.
  • Hamilton had seven shot attempts including five on goal in the final four minutes, but Merageas didn't let anything else past her.

Notes

  • Bullock scored her eighth career goal for the Continentals.
  • Romano collected her sixth career assist at Hamilton.
  • Brown finished with 28 saves.
  • Carly McMahon '27 had three of the Continentals' 14 blocked shots.
  • Abby Weiss '25 and Grace Crowley '26 won 8-of-14 faceoffs apiece.
  • Kim was credited with two assists for the Panthers.
  • Only one minor penalty was called the entire game.
