No. 22 field hockey rallies for 2-1 win at St. Lawrence

Truchon '26 and Tratnyek '26 scored in the second half for the Continentals

CANTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Lilly Truchon '26 scored the go-ahead goal early in the fourth quarter of the Continentals' 2-1 non-conference win over the St. Lawrence University Saints at St. Lawrence's rain-soaked North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (7-4 overall), which is ranked 22nd in the Division III Top 25 coaches poll for the second straight week, won for the fourth time in its last five games.
  • The Saints (5-5), who are 2-0 in the Liberty League, had won their previous four contests.

How It Happened

  • Truchon snapped the 1-1 tie 1:15 into the final quarter during a penalty corner situation. Morgan Clarke '28 one-timed a pass from Isabelle Nahon '27 from the top of the arc. Clarke's shot was tipped in front by Truchon from close range past the goalkeeper's right-hand side.
  • Claire Tratnyek '26 drew the Continentals even with 5:03 left in the third quarter. Delaney Grace '25 inserted the ball on a corner to Tratnyek at the top of the arc. She settled it and hammered a hard, bouncing shot that the keeper slowed down with their foot, but the momentum of the shot carried the ball over the goal line.
  • St. Lawrence grabbed a 1-0 lead with 8:51 remaining in the second quarter on a goal by Lily Gubbins.
  • Hamilton dominated possession as the Continentals held a 20-6 commanding shot advantage and were awarded 14 penalty corners to the Saints' three.

Notes

  • Truchon has four goals this year and 14 for her Hamilton career.
  • Tratnyek has a three-game point streak intact. She has three goals this season and is tied for second on the team with Truchon with eight points.
  • Grace collected her second assist this season and has 34 career points with the Continentals.
  • Clarke picked up her first collegiate point.
  • Abby Griffin '26 made three saves in the first half for Hamilton.
  • Kelly Janssen '28 needed to make just one stop in relief of Griffin in the second half.
  • Elizabeth Walsh kept St. Lawrence in the game, especially early, by turning away 10 shots.
  • The Continentals have outscored the Saints 13-3 in their last four meetings.
  • Hamilton's last four games – and seven of its 11 in 2024 – have been decided by a 2-1 decision.

Next Game

The Continentals travel to Connecticut College (4-5, 1-4) for a NESCAC game on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m.
