Men's soccer shuts out Bates 1-0 for third win in six days

A Bates own goal and stout defense keyed the Continentals' victory

CLINTON, N.Y. - A Bates College defender scored an own goal early in the second half and the Hamilton College Continentals shut out the Bobcats 1-0 in NESCAC action on Hamilton's Love Field on Sunday, Oct. 6. 

Season Update 

  • The Continentals (5-4-2, 3-3-1 NESCAC) have won three straight and are unbeaten in their last five matches. 
  • The Bobcats (6-4-1, 2-3-1) lost their third straight NESCAC match. 

How it Happened 

  • Less than two minutes into the second half, a Bates defender headed the ball towards his goalkeeper. The ball dribbled past the keeper and into the back of the net. 
  • Hamilton controlled the action for much of the match, enjoying a 17-0 shot advantage and taking six corner kicks to Bates' one. 
  • The Continentals came close to scoring on several occasions, including when Luke Peplowski '25 missed a shot just high in the 66th minute. 

Notes 

  • Peplowski tallied five shots, including two on goal. 
  • Finn Wheeler '27 registered his third clean sheet of the season. 
  • Bennett Hauck '26 had two shots in only 19 minutes of action. 
  • George Nassar saved four shots for Bates. 
  • Hamilton has shut out the Bobcats in their last two meetings. 

Next Match

Hamilton will travel to Connecticut College (5-1-3, 2-1-3) for a NESCAC match on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Camels' Freeman Field.
