No. 25 field hockey tripped up at Trinity in regular season finale

Tratnyek '26 scored for the Continentals in their 3-1 setback

HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity College's Claire Griffith scored two goals and the Bantams recorded a 3-1 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Trinity's Robin L. Sheppard Field on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 25 Hamilton (7-8, 3-7 NESCAC) ended the regular season on a four-game losing streak. The Continentals are in 10th place in the conference standings but four teams are tied for sixth place with a 3-6 record. Hamilton could still get into the NESCAC championship quarterfinals depending on how those teams perform on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when the last conference games are played.
  • The Bantams (5-9, 1-8) had lost six straight going into Saturday's clash with the Continentals.

How It Happened

  • The Continentals came out strong with four shots midway through the first quarter, including one by Claire Tratnyek '26 that hit the left post off a penalty corner.
  • Despite the early pressure by Hamilton, Trinity grabbed the lead with 4:17 left in the first on Griffith's first goal after a pass from Nina Falkson.
  • The Continentals tied the score 74 seconds later. Delaney Grace '25 inserted the ball on a corner to Tratnyek, who was positioned a few feet to the right of the top of the arc. Tratnyek's blast beat the goalkeeper to her left and was deflected but not stopped by a defender on its way to the back of the cage.
  • The score remained tied until 45.5 seconds remained in the third quarter when the Bantams' Izzy Deveney scored off an assist from Maeve Hymovitz on a corner.
  • Griffith added an insurance goal with 7:44 to go in the fourth quarter after a scramble in front.
  • Hamilton continued to pressure with four shots and three corners in the final six minutes. The Continentals also pulled their goalkeeper for an extra field player with about two minutes left.

Notes

  • Tratnyek is second on the team with four goals and 10 points.
  • Grace leads Hamilton with three assists.
  • Abby Griffin '26 started in the cage for the Continentals and made one save in the first half.
  • Kelly Janssen '28 relieved Griffin at the start of the third quarter and stopped two shots.
  • Sydney Korkosz turned away six shots for Trinity in 53-plus minutes and Annie Raduazzo had two saves in the final 6:38.
  • Hamilton held a 6-2 shot advantage and was awarded four corners to none for the Bantams in the first quarter.
