Women’s volleyball drops four-set NESCAC match at Conn. College

Trefren ’28 tallied a double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs for the Continentals

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Connecticut College's Mila Chan led all players with 15 kills as the Camels defeated the Hamilton College Continentals in four sets (20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17) inside Conn. College's Luce Fieldhouse on Saturday, Oct. 19. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (4-11, 1-7 NESCAC) wraps up its regular season with four consecutive home matches. 
  • Conn. College (13-6, 3-5) extended its win streak to three matches. 

How It Happened

  • In the first set Hamilton sprinted out to a 6-0 lead, stretched it to a 14-4 cushion and led the rest of the way. The Camels stormed back and cut their deficit to just four points at 20-16. Two Conn. College errors and two kills by Drew Stimson '25 put the Continentals up 24-16. Ayzlinn Trefren '28 secured the set win for Hamilton with a kill. 
  • The Camels held a 13-12 edge in the second set before they ran off eight of the next nine points. Hamilton countered with five straight points and narrowed the scoring gap, but the Camels claimed four of the final five points. 
  • Conn. College turned an 11-10 edge into a 17-10 lead after five kills and a Hamilton attack error in the third set. The Camels led by as many as nine points at 21-12 and clinched the set win on three straight points. 
  • Conn. College jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth set and stayed in front for the duration. The Camels led by at least four points and sealed the match victory on a Continental setting error.  

Notes

  • Trefren finished with a team-high 12 kills along with 18 digs and two service aces. 
  • Elodie McGeiver '27 chipped in eight kills and a team-best 19 digs. 
  • Stimson stuffed a team-best five blocks and had eight kills. 
  • Pati Cerda '26 handed out 18 assists and had six kills. 
  • Caitlin Allen '27 finished with three blocks. She leads Hamilton with 37 total blocks. 
  • Mia Jessen '28 recorded 14 digs and a season-best eight assists. 
  • Katherine Randall tallied 14 kills and 12 digs. 
  • Taylor Merrifield finished with match highs of 22 digs and three service aces. 
  • Josie Kelly collected 47 assists and 13 digs, while Rae Wartelle had 11 kills.  

Next Match

Hamilton hosts Wheaton College (7-15) and William Smith College (15-3), which received votes in this week's Division III Top 25 coaches poll, on Saturday, Oct. 26. The first match gets underway at 11 a.m. Hamilton will honor its three seniors before the match.
