Flood '27 lifts women's soccer into 2-2 draw with No. 2 Amherst

Sophomore scored the tying goal with 1:04 left in the second half

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Sarah Flood '27 scored late in the second half and secured a 2-2 NESCAC tie with the Amherst College Mammoths at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday, Oct. 19. 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (5-5-3, 2-4-3 NESCAC) are in seventh place in the NESCAC standings with nine points with one conference match remaining. The top eight teams advance to the NESCAC championship quarterfinals.
  • Nationally ranked No. 2 Amherst (7-1-4, 4-1-3) has allowed five goals in its last three matches after giving up just one in its first nine.

How it Happened

  • With the clock winding down, Hamilton's Olivia Zubarik '25 put up a beautiful corner kick for Flood to head in for the tying goal with 1:04 left.
  • The Continentals came out hot, with Erin Rayhill '25 scoring from the top-left corner of the box in the 14th minute. Hamilton led 1-0 at the half.
  • Amherst's Halle Hanna struck back in the 61st minute and tied the score.
  • The Mammoths took the lead in the 72nd minute when the Continentals tried to clear the ball by heading it away as the Hamilton goalkeeper came off their line to meet the ball. Instead, the defender headed it high out of the goalkeeper's reach and into the back of the net for an own goal.

Notes

  • Rayhill has two goals this season and 12 in her career with the Continentals.
  • Flood scored for the third time this season and for the fourth time in her Hamilton career.
  • Zubarik leads the team with four assists and is tied for the top spot with 12 points.
  • Hamilton's Nieve Tonna '26 tied a career high with an astounding 13 saves.
  • The Continentals recorded one corner kick and it resulted in the tying score.
  • Hamilton's six seniors (Rayhill, Zubarik, Lauren Hanna '25, Katie Moses '25, Shayna Polsky '25, Sarah Roth '25) were honored before the match.
  • Amherst put up 41 shots (15 on goal) against Hamilton's eight (four on goal).
