Men’s soccer dealt tough NESCAC loss, Peplowski ’25 scores

Senior midfielder recorded his fifth goal of the season for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Amherst College's Niall Murphy struck the game-winning goal in the final five minutes and the Mammoths outlasted the Hamilton College Continentals 2-1 in a hard-fought NESCAC match at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday, Oct. 19. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-5-3, 3-4-2 NESCAC) has just one loss in its last seven matches. The Continentals are in sixth place in the conference standings with 11 points with one conference match left. The top eight teams advance to the conference championship. 
  • Amherst (9-2-2, 5-2-1) is ranked 12th in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll. 

How It Happened

  • Fynn Hayton-Ruffner gave the Mammoths the lead in the 26th minute on passes from Mohammed Nuhu and Ben Clark-Eden. 
  • In search of the equalizer, the Continentals were rewarded a penalty kick after a Mammoth foul inside the 18-yard box with 8:19 left. Luke Peplowski '25 stepped up to take the kick and settled the shot in the back of the net. 
  • The Mammoths re-gained the lead less than four minutes later on Murphy's header. Nuhu and Clark-Eden picked up the assists again. 
  • Amherst owned a 21-12 shot advantage with 11 on target. 
  • The Mammoths held a 3-2 edge on corner kicks.  

Notes

  • Peplowski netted his second penalty kick goal of the season. He leads Hamilton with five goals and 12 points. 
  • Finn Wheeler '27 registered a career-high nine saves for the Continentals. 
  • Amherst's Hayton-Ruffner and Murphy tallied their third goals of the season.  
  • Juan Perez made two stops in goal for the Mammoths.
 

Next Match

Hamilton hosts local opponent Utica University (2-8-6) on Tuesday, Oct. 22 for a non-conference matchup under the lights on Withiam Field at 5 p.m.
