No. 22 field hockey downed by No. 16 Amherst in home finale

Continentals dropped to ninth place in the standings with their fourth straight NESCAC loss

CLINTON, N.Y. – Amherst College's Sam Maynard scored a goal and added three assists in the Mammoths' 7-0 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Saturday, Oct. 19.
 

Season Update

  • The 22nd-ranked Continentals (7-7, 3-6 NESCAC) dropped their fourth straight conference game. Hamilton is in ninth place in the NESCAC standings with one game remaining. The top eight teams advance to the NESCAC championship quarterfinals.
  • Nationally ranked No. 16 Amherst (8-5, 3-5) has outscored its last two opponents 13-0.
 

How It Happened

  • Anna Aiello scored 5:42 into the first quarter and made it 2-0 with 4:19 left in the second quarter.
  • The Mammoths blew the game open with three goals in the third quarter. Maynard scored 1:47 after halftime, Molly Donegan made it a four-goal cushion midway through the quarter, and Caroline Busler found the back of the cage with 4:26 remaining.
  • Goals by Genevieve Caruso and Kate Smith in the opening 81 seconds of the fourth quarter completed the scoring.
 

Notes

  • Becky Felker '26 had the Continentals' lone shot on goal.
  • Abby Griffin '26 started and made five saves in the first half.
  • Reilly Loughman '27 played the final 13-plus minutes and didn't face any shots on goal in her first appearance in the cage this season.
  • Isabelle Nahon '27 was credited with her first career defensive save.
  • Morgan Clarke '28 is tied for third in the NESCAC in defensive saves after she picked up her fourth this year.
  • Amherst's Grace Puchalski didn't have to make a save during the first three quarters. Puchalski gave way to Sara Nidus at the start of the fourth quarter and Nidus turned away one shot.
  • The Mammoths held a 17-6 shot advantage and were awarded 12 penalty corners to Hamilton's three.
 

Next Game

The Continentals wrap up their regular season at NESCAC foe Trinity College (4-8, 0-8) on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m.
