CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Grisha Gotovets '25 scored two goals in the first period and the Continentals posted a 4-2 NESCAC win against the Colby College Mules inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday, Jan. 5.
Season Update
- The Continentals (9-2, 5-1 NESCAC) played on campus for the first time since Nov. 18.
- Colby (3-4-2, 1-3-2) remained winless in four games away from home.
How It Happened
- Hamilton had a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity for 36 seconds early in the first period. Eight seconds after the two-man advantage ended, but still on the power play, Gotovets gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead at 3:39. Jackson Krock '26 threw the puck in front from the goal line on the right side of the net. The puck was knocked around and Krock took a whack at it before Gotovets finally put it into the back of the net from near the right post.
- Hamilton made it 2-0 just before the horn sounded to end the first period. Lucas Constantine '27 took a shot from above the right faceoff circle that the goaltender stopped but couldn't cover up, and Gotovets stuffed the puck into the open net as it sat in the crease with five-tenths of a second left.
- After a scoreless second period, Devon de Vries '27 gave the Continentals a three-goal cushion 1:34 into the third. Constantine put a shot on goal from the right faceoff circle and de Vries was there to clean up the rebound from just outside the crease.
- Hamilton's fourth line was responsible for the Continentals' fourth goal 8:35 into the third period. Ryan Brown '25 and Noah Leibl '27 fought for the puck along the end boards and Leibl eventually slipped it into the low slot. Brown somehow poked the loose puck past the goaltender from a scrum in and around the crease.
- Jack Grant '24 lost his shutout bid with 8:25 remaining in the third when Dhillon Wilde scored for the Mules. Donovan O'Neil pulled Colby within 4-2 with 2:00 to go.
- The Mules pulled their goaltender for an extra skater shortly after they won the ensuing faceoff. Colby had five shot attempts but three of them were blocked by Hamilton defenders and two more were off-target.
- A shot at the empty net by the Continentals' Ben Zimmerman '26 hit the post with about 20 seconds left.
