MIDDLEBURY, VT. – Hamilton College's Garett Keyhani '26 poured in a career-high 26 points and the Continentals defeated the Middlebury College Panthers 70-61 in NESCAC action at Middlebury's Pepin Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 5.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-6, 1-0 NESCAC) won for the fourth time in its last five games.
- Middlebury (5-8, 0-1) is just 2-4 at home.
How It Happened
- Keyhani started the show less than two minutes into the first half with a 3-ball on a feed from Hank Morgan '25.
- Trailing 4-3, the Continentals went on a 12-0 run and took a 15-4 lead with 14:14 left in the opening half. The Panthers didn't get closer than six points the rest of the night.
- Middlebury slashed its deficit with five straight points, but Owen Kane '25 silenced the crowd with a dunk, and Matthew Rideout '27 nailed a shot from 3-point land that extended Hamilton's lead back to double digits at 20-9 midway through the half.
- Noah Osher knocked down a 3-ball and pulled the Panthers within six at 25-19 with 2:32 remaining.
- Kane netted a jumper with 22 seconds to go and gave Hamilton a 31-21 advantage going into the break.
- Keyhani played above the rim on Hamilton's first possession of the second half as he started a 12-3 spurt with a dunk. Keyhani scored eight of those 12 points as the Continentals built a 19-point cushion at 43-24 with 16:29 left.
- Middlebury cut its deficit to 13 points at 47-34 with 13:25 to go after a layup by Edward Witherington.
- The Panthers came within seven points on four occasions but the Continentals went 10-for-12 at the charity stripe down the stretch and secured the victory.
- Hamilton shot 47.2 percent (25-53) from the floor including 8 of 20 from behind the 3-point line.
- The Continentals finished 12-for-16 at the line in the second half after they didn't attempt a free throw in the first 20 minutes.
- Hamilton owned a 41-26 advantage on the glass.
- Middlebury was just 9 of 33 (27.3 percent) from the floor in the first half.
Notes
- Keyhani was 9 of 14 from the field including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. He went a perfect 4-for-4 at the stripe and added six rebounds and two blocks.
- Morgan contributed eight points, six boards and three blocked shots.
- Teja Singh '25 recorded eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
- Kane registered seven points and dished out a game-high five assists. He is fourth in the NESCAC with 3.7 assists per game.
- Christian McDaniel '24 chipped in six points off the bench.
- Osher led Middlebury with 17 points and three steals.
- Tristan Joseph added 16 points for the Panthers.
- Evan Flaks and Witherington pitched in eight points apiece.
