No. 7 women's hockey shut out for the first time this season

Continentals edged 1-0 in overtime at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wesleyan University's Mairead Kennedy scored 38 seconds into sudden-victory overtime and lifted the Cardinals to a 1-0 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Wesleyan's Spurrier-Snyder Rink on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 7 Hamilton (11-4-3, 4-4-2 NESCAC) lost for the first time since Jan. 5.
  • The Cardinals (9-6-3, 4-4-2) ended up 1-1-1 against the Continentals this season. Hamilton won 4-2 in Clinton back on Nov. 25, and the teams played to a 2-2 tie on Friday night.

How It Happened

  • Dylan Green and Christina Tournas had the assists on the game-winner, which came 29 seconds after Teagan Brown '27 made a save on a penalty shot by Brigitte Goeler-Slough. Wesleyan was awarded the penalty shot after a tripping call on the Continentals just nine seconds into the five-minute extra period.
  • Hamilton's best scoring chance came about six minutes into the second period when the Continentals had three shot attempts within 15 seconds. Lisa Ito-Bagshaw '25 and Katie Allen '26 took shots that were stopped by Rei Halloran, and Allen rang the post with the other.

Notes

  • Brown finished with 21 saves including 11 in the third period. She has a 1.31 goals against average and .944 save percentage in 15 starts.
  • Hamilton was shut out for the first time since the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship semifinal.
  • Halloran turned away 29 shots for the hosts.
  • The Cardinals had three power-play opportunities in the third period and five overall. The Continentals had just one.
  • Hamilton played its third straight overtime game and eighth this season.
