Men’s basketball bested by SUNY Poly, Morgan ’25 scores 20

Junior guard registered 20-plus points for the eighth time this season for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – SUNY Polytechnic's Cheickne Toure recorded 23 points and five assists in the Wildcats' 84-76 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Sunday, Jan. 21. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (9-9 overall) dropped its second contest in as many days. 
  • SUNY Poly, which is 6-1 in the North Atlantic Conference, improved to 11-7 overall with its fifth straight win.   
How It Happened
  • The Wildcats gathered a 6-2 lead within the first three minutes. 
  • Matthew Rideout '27 buried a 3-pointer and pulled Hamilton within one point at 14-13 with 13:16 on the clock. 
  • Sharif Nelson '26 drove through traffic and tipped it in for an 18-16 edge with 11:17 left. 
  • SUNY Poly used a 10-2 spurt to hold a six-point advantage at 26-20 with 7:41 to go. 
  • The Wildcats kept pushing and took off on a 9-0 run for a 35-26 lead. 
  • Less than a minute later, SUNY Poly gathered its first double-digit lead at 38-28 with 3:18 left. 
  • Teja Singh '25, Garret Keyhani '26 and Connor Jenkins '27 dropped in a trio of 3-pointers to slash the Wildcats' lead to 40-37 with 26 seconds left, but LJ Randle countered with a shot from long distance with three ticks remaining for a 43-37 lead at the half. 
  • Hank Morgan '25 hit a pair at the line and pulled Hamilton within four points in the opening two minutes of the second half. 
  • SUNY Poly responded with the next eight points for its largest lead at 51-39 with 14:40 left. 
  • The Continentals came within three points on two occasions and trailed 65-62 with 4:51 remaining. 
  • Will Holmes '27 made a layup to cut Hamilton's deficit to five points at 78-73 with 50 seconds to go, but the Wildcats finished 10-for-10 at the line down the stretch for the final margin. 
  • Hamilton shot 47.4 percent (27-57) from the floor, including 10 of 24 from 3-point range, and 57.1 percent (12-21) at the line. 
  • SUNY Poly shot 52.6 percent (30-57) from the field, including 52.9 percent (9-17) from beyond the arc, and 88.2 percent (15-17) at the charity stripe. 
  • The Wildcats held a 36-25 advantage on the glass. 
Notes
  • Hamilton had won its last 12 meetings against SUNY Poly. 
  • Morgan tallied 20 points, a team-best six rebounds and made a team-best three steals. 
  • Singh chipped in 14 points as he was 3 of 7 from 3-point land. 
  • Christian McDaniel '24 contributed eight points and five rebounds. 
  • Keyhani and Nelson finished with eight points apiece.
  • Holmes added seven points, five rebounds and two blocks, and handed out a season-best five assists off the bench. 
  • Randle registered 22 points, six boards, and three assists for the Wildcats. 
  • Anthony Rose had 12 points.
  • Josh Ernst scored 12 and led the team with nine rebounds and four steals. 
  • Dylan Ernst tallied nine points, five rebounds and three assists off the bench. 
Next Game
Hamilton travels to Hartford, Conn., for a NESCAC road game at Trinity College (18-0, 4-0) on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
