CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Piper Seamon '24 led all players with 16 points as the Continentals posted a 62-45 non-conference win against the SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Season Update
- Hamilton (13-5 overall) snapped its losing skid at three.
- SUNY Poly, which is a member of the North Atlantic Conference, dipped to 5-12 overall.
How It Happened
- Trailing by one point at 3-2, the Continentals strung together a 16-1 run and owned an 18-4 advantage after the opening 10 minutes. Kendall Harris '27, Taylor Lambo '26, Tessa Cole '24 and Maria Mercado Rengel '24 all scored during the spurt.
- After Hamilton gave up the first basket of the second quarter, Seamon scored seven of the Continentals' next 12 points including a put-back that pushed the lead up to 17 points at 25-8 with just under three minutes left.
- Anna Gnapp '26 knocked down a jumper and gave Hamilton a comfortable 30-10 advantage at the break.
- SUNY Poly came out with an 8-0 run to start the third quarter.
- Abbey Schwoebel '27 converted an old-fashioned three-point play for a 33-18 cushion with 6:17 left on the clock.
- The Wildcats shut down Hamilton's offense and took off on a 12-0 rally to trail by three points at 33-30 with 1:23 remaining in the third quarter.
- Hamilton led 42-32 with 6:29 left in the final quarter as Seamon scored a layup and Abigael Morin '25 nailed four free throws.
- SUNY Poly managed to cut its deficit down to seven points on three occasions, including 52-45 with 1:31 left to play.
- Hamilton cruised to the finish with 10 straight points.
- The Continentals owned a 47-37 advantage on the glass.
- The Wildcats tallied 17 points on 24 Hamilton turnovers.
Notes
- Seamon went 6 of 10 from the field and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line, and she grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
- Cole drained three 3-pointers and finished with 12 points, five boards and three assists off the bench.
- Mercado Rengel chipped in 10 points, four boards and two steals.
- Morin dropped in seven points.
- Alysa Jackson led the Wildcats with 14 points and added five rebounds and three steals.
- Sophia Murray finished with 12 points, six boards, three assists and two steals.
- Alivia Turk registered 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
