McGennis '24 lifts No. 7 women's hockey to another one-goal win

Senior scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period in the Continentals' 3-2 victory

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Hamilton College's Claire McGennis '24 scored the go-ahead goal with 4:38 left in the third period and the Continentals edged the Williams College Ephs 3-2 in NESCAC action inside Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 7 Hamilton (10-3-1, 4-3-1 NESCAC) extended its win streak to four games and swept the weekend series against the Ephs. The Continentals won 1-0 in overtime on Friday.
  • Williams (6-5-2, 4-3-1) has one win in its last four contests.

How It Happened

  • McGennis' game-winner was assisted by Lydia Bullock '26. The Ephs dominated the action the rest of the way with seven shot attempts to Hamilton's three. Williams pulled its goaltender for a sixth skater with 2:13 remaining and had a 6-on-4 advantage for 31 seconds after the Continentals picked up a tripping penalty. The power play ended with 58 seconds to go when one of the Ephs was sent to the box for hooking, and their goalie had to return to her net.
  • Lisa Ito-Bagshaw '25 put Hamilton up 1-0 at 10:36 of the first period with a power-play goal. Sami Quackenbush '24 and Ali Joseph '25 had the assists. The Continentals, who had a power play for three-plus minutes after penalties on Williams at 7:09 and 8:40, never trailed but never led by more than a goal.
  • Williams tied the score with 2:49 left in the first on a power-play goal by Katie Armstrong. Armstrong had clanged a shot off the post about 30 seconds before she made it 1-1.
  • After a scoreless second period, Abby Smith '24 moved Hamilton back in front 4:43 into the third. Bobbi Roca '24 had the assist.
  • Leah Rubenshteyn drew the Ephs even again at 9:13 of the third. The Continentals killed a Williams power play that started with 7:19 remaining.
