Women’s basketball comeback falls short, Harris ’27 nets 29 points

Continentals nearly rally from 16-point halftime deficit

MEDFORD, Mass. – Tufts University's Maggie Russell dropped in 36 points and the Jumbos survived a Hamilton College Continentals comeback attempt 70-63 in NESCAC action at Tufts' Cousens Gym on Saturday, Jan. 13. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (12-5, 1-3 NESCAC) has dropped four of its last five games. 
  • Tufts (10-5, 2-1) is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com and Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 polls. 
How It Happened
  • Emily Hall '24 nailed a jump shot in the paint for a 56-55 lead with 4:22 left. 
  • The Jumbos quickly reclaimed the lead with seven straight points for a 62-56 advantage with 2:18 remaining. 
  • Kendall Harris '27 pulled the Continentals within five points at 68-63 on a shot from beyond the arc with 25 seconds to go. 
  • Hamilton was forced to foul and Russell closed out the scoring with two shots at the line. 
  • The Continentals started the third quarter with a 6-0 run and slashed their deficit to 10 points at 41-31 with 7:08 left. 
  • Trailing 46-38, Hall scored the last five points of the quarter on free throws and Hamilton was down by just three going into the final 10 minutes. Tufts was 2 of 18 from the floor during the third quarter.
  • Tied at 13 apiece, the Continentals made one basket in the final four minutes of the first quarter and trailed 25-17 after one.
  • The Jumbos led by as many as 16 points in the second quarter, at 39-23 with 1:29 remaining and 41-25 at the break.
  • Hamilton shot 39.7 percent (23-58) from the field, including 4 of 12 from 3-point land, and 72.2 percent (13-18) at the line. 
  • Tufts shot 40 percent (22-55) from the floor, including 6 of 20 from beyond the arc, and went 20-for-27 (74.1 percent) at the charity stripe. 
  • The Continentals owned a 42-32 advantage on the glass but committed 18 turnovers. 
  • The Jumbos had a 13-0 advantage in bench points.
Notes
  • Harris was 11 of 21 from the floor including 4 of 8 from beyond the arc as she poured in a career-high 29 points. She dished out three assists and made two steals. 
  • Taylor Lambo '26 recorded her sixth double-double this season with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. 
  • Hall collected 13 points and 10 boards for her second career double-double. 
  • Russell shot 11 of 16 from the floor and went 12-for-13 at the line. She added three assists and two blocks. She is third in the NESCAC with 18.8 points per game. 
  • Mallory Folliard added eight points off the bench. 
  • Annika Decker contributed seven points while Samantha Sousa had six. 
Next Game
The Continentals host local non-conference opponent SUNY Polytechnic (5-11) on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 5 p.m.
