Men’s basketball rallies past No. 14 Tufts, 87-82

Continentals shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Garret Keyhani '26 and Hank Morgan '25 poured in 26 points apiece in the Continentals' 87-82 NESCAC win against the Tufts University Jumbos on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Jan. 13. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (8-7, 3-1 NESCAC) has won four of its last five contests. 
  • Tufts (13-4, 0-3) is ranked 14th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, but has lost three of its last four.  
How It Happened
  • After trailing for nearly 20 minutes, the Continentals gained control with an 11-1 spurt on four points by Morgan and Keyhani and a 3-ball by Teja Singh '25 for a 45-40 advantage with 15:34 left. 
  • Up 52-50, Hamilton took off with a 9-2 rally for a nine-point advantage midway through the half. 
  • Tufts nailed back-to-back 3-pointers and added a conventional 3-point play and pulled within four points at 71-67 with 3:13 remaining. 
  • The Continentals countered with a 10-2 burst and Keyhani finished off a fast break with a dunk for a 12-point lead at 83-71 with 41 seconds to go. 
  • Tufts refused to go down without a fight as the Jumbos hit a trio of shots from long distance and helped force three turnovers as they made it a one-possession game at 85-82 with two seconds left. 
  • Morgan was fouled and clinched the win with a pair at the line. 
  • The Jumbos sprinted out to a 12-5 lead in the opening four minutes. 
  • Singh hit a pull-up jumper in the paint, Owen Kane '25 drained a shot from long distance, and Morgan canned a layup and a 3-ball as Hamilton knotted the score at 15-15 with 13:43 to go. 
  • With under five minutes remaining in the half, Tufts gathered its largest lead of nine points at 35-26.   
  • The Continentals quickly answered with seven straight points, topped by a Keyhani old-fashioned 3-point play and pulled within two with 2:27 left in the half. The Jumbos held a 37-34 edge at the half.
  • Hamilton shot 45.7 percent (32-70) from the field, but 57.1 percent (20-35) in the second half. The Continentals were 7 of 21 from 3-point range, and went 16-for-25 at the line. 
  • Tufts shot 38.2 percent (13-34) from the floor in the second half. The Jumbos finished at 42.9 percent (27-63) overall, including 35.5 percent (11-31) from beyond the arc, and went 17-for-21 (81 percent) at the charity stripe. 
  • The Continentals tallied 20 second-chance points to Tufts' 11 as Hamilton owned a 46-31 advantage on the glass with 17 offensive boards.  
Notes
  • Keyhani tied a career high with 26 points and added three steals. 
  • Morgan netted 26 points for the second straight game and leads the NESCAC with 18.3 per game. 
  • Singh scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half, grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and dished out four assists. 
  • Kane passed out a team-best five assists and is third in the conference with 3.5 per game. 
  • James Morakis led Tufts with 16 points. 
  • Khai Champion contributed 14 points off the bench. 
  • Scott Gyimesi posted a double-double with 10 points and a team-best 11 boards and handed out five assists. 
  • Joshua Bernstein dropped in eight points and added nine rebounds. 
  • Jon Medley tallied 10 points and four blocks.
