Women’s basketball downed by nationally ranked Smith, 74-56

Lambo ’26 led three Continentals in double figures in points with 14

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Smith College's Ally Yamada registered 28 points and the Pioneers posted a 74-56 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Smith's Ainsworth Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 9. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (12-3 overall) lost for the third time in the last five games after starting the season with 10 straight wins. 
  • Smith (11-2) is ranked 13th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 poll and 17th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Pioneers extended their win streak to three games.  
How It Happened
  • Kendall Harris '27 and Althea Hill '26 opened the scoring with jumpers for a quick 4-0 start. 
  • The Pioneers ran off a 17-2 spurt for a 17-6 advantage with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter and led the rest of the way.
  • Tessa Cole '25 drained a pair at the line and cut Smith's lead to 19-11 at the end of the opening quarter. 
  • The Pioneers shot 58.8 percent (10-17) in the second quarter and held a 16-point cushion at 41-25 heading into halftime. 
  • Harris put the Continentals within 15 points with 4:49 left in the third quarter, but Yamada countered with a 3-ball and the teams didn't score for the next four-plus minutes. Yamada beat the quarter buzzer with another 3-pointer and Smith led 59-38. 
  • Hamilton shot 7 of 13 from the floor and outscored the Pioneers 18-15 in the final 10 minutes.
  • Hamilton shot 38.6 percent (22-57) from the field but struggled from long range (1-11). The Continentals went 11-for-14 at the charity stripe. 
  • Smith shot 52.5 percent (32-61) from the floor including 5 of 15 from the 3-point line. 
  • The Pioneers held a 40-24 advantage on the glass. 
  • Smith tallied 48 points in the paint to Hamilton's 34.
Notes
  • Lambo led the Continentals with 14 points, six boards and one block. 
  • Emily Hall '24 netted 12 points and came up with two steals. 
  • Courtney Shay '24 tied a season high with 10 points and Harris added nine. 
  • Yamada hit 12 of 19 from the floor including 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. 
  • Jane Loo chipped in 10 points and a game-high eight boards. 
  • Jessie Ruffner tallied 10 points and four assists.  
  • Sofia Rosa recorded nine points for the Pioneers.

The Continentals travel to Lewiston, Maine, for a NESCAC matchup at Bates College (12-2, 1-0) on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
