TROY, N.Y. – Hamilton College received goals from three different players and the Continentals opened the 2023 season with a 3-1 non-conference win against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers at RPI's Harkness Field on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Season Update
- Hamilton is ranked 24th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Preseason poll.
- The Engineers, who are members of the Liberty League, dropped to 0-3 overall.
How It Happened
- The Continentals dominated possession from the start and finally cashed in with 2:10 left in the first quarter on a goal by Becca Munoz '25.
- Hamilton turned RPI's first penalty corner into a counter-attack chance more than five minutes into the second quarter. Claire Tratnyek '26 finished off the play with a goal off a pass from Sammy Higgins '26 with 9:09 remaining.
- The score remained 2-0 into the fourth quarter, but after four corners and four shots by the Continentals in the opening minute, Hamilton increased its lead to three with 11:51 to go when Hannah Dillon '24 found Delaney Grace '25 for the goal.
- Rachel Banister scored the Engineers' goal on a penalty corner less than a minute later while the Continentals were down a player due to a green card. The goal was RPI's only shot of the contest.
