Women’s soccer ties Tufts 1-1 on late goal by Ledbury ‘26

Sophomore forward scored her eighth career goal for the Continentals

MEDFORD, Mass. – Hamilton College's Maddie Ledbury '26 netted the equalizer in the 81st minute and the Continentals forced a 1-1 draw with the Tufts University Jumbos on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Tufts' Bello Field.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton, which received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll, remained unbeaten at 3-0-3 overall and 1-0-3 in the NESCAC.
  • Tufts (3-2-1, 1-2-1 NESCAC) also received votes in the Division III poll.
 

How It Happened

  • The Jumbos fired three shots in the first nine minutes but Hamilton's Nieve Tonna '26 made two saves and the other was wide to the left.
  • Olivia Zubarik '25 had a solid scoring chance 27:31 into the opening half, but Gigi Edwards secured the save for the Jumbos.
  • Four minutes later, Tufts took a 1-0 lead on a well-contested goal by Thalia Greenberg that was assisted by Emily Nicholas.
  • Olivia Morrow '24 almost evened the score in the 36th minute on a shot that hit the right post.
  • With just 9:23 remaining, Ledbury knotted the score. The Continentals earned a corner kick and Ledbury connected on a header that flew into the right side of the net. Zubarik took the corner kick and picked up an assist.
  • Hamilton and Tufts recorded 13 shots apiece and both teams tallied four corner kicks.
  • The match was physical as the teams combined for 30 fouls and a Tufts player received a yellow card.
 

Notes

  • Ledbury scored her first goal of the season.
  • Zubarik added her second assist in two games.
  • Erin Rayhill '25 attempted a team-high four shots.
  • Morrow led Hamilton with two shots on goal.
  • Tonna recorded five saves in the first half and tied a season high with eight total stops for the Continentals.
  • Tufts' Edwards tallied five saves.
  • Hamilton is 2-0-2 in its last four meetings with the Jumbos.

The Continentals travel to Middletown, Conn., to face Wesleyan University (4-1-1, 2-0-1 NESCAC) on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m.
