Women’s soccer blanks No. 21 Wesleyan on the road, still unbeaten

Grossman ’24 tallied her first career goal for the Continentals in the 2-0 win

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Hamilton College's Kelly Grossman '24 and Olivia Morrow '24 scored goals and the Continentals posted a 2-0 NESCAC win against the Wesleyan University Cardinals on a rainy Sunday, Sept. 24 at Wesleyan's Jackson Field.

Season Update

  • Hamilton, which received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll, improved to 4-0-3 overall and 2-0-3 in the NESCAC.
  • Wesleyan (4-2-1, 2-1-1) is ranked 21st in the United Soccer Coaches poll.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton dominated the pitch early as the Continentals produced six shots in the first 18 minutes.
  • Grossman connected in the 34th minute. Erin Rayhill '25 attempted a shot from the far-right side of the 18-yard box and it was blocked. The Cardinals claimed the rebound, but Grossman intercepted a pass and cannoned a shot from well above the box that breezed into the top-right corner.
  • Rayhill tried to extend Hamilton's lead with shots in the 37th and 41st minutes, but Wesleyan's Juliette Vemmer made the saves.
  • After countless efforts, the Continentals went up 2-0 in the 67th minute. Hamilton controlled possession at midfield and Lauren Hanna '25 sent a pass to Morrow who dished it to Rayhill in the box. Rayhill waited for the perfect moment before sending the ball back to Morrow outside the box, and she laced a long shot that deflected off the right post.
  • The Cardinals' Audrey Lavey attempted three shots in the final seven minutes but Nieve Tonna '26 was there for the rejections.
  • Hamilton owned a 26-14 shot advantage.
  • Wesleyan held a 7-3 edge on corner kicks.
