MARCY, N.Y. -- Hamilton College men's basketball all-American Kevin Grimmer '81 was honored at SUNY Polytechnic's Campus Center Gym on Saturday, Sept. 16 for nearly 40 years of service to the college's athletic department.
The ceremony included the dedication of the basketball court as "Kevin Grimmer Court", an induction into the Wildcat Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023, and the establishment of the Kevin Grimmer Fund for Wildcat Athletics. The latter is aimed at providing additional support and resources to student-athletes, and will ensure that the next generations of Wildcat student-athletes will be supported and continue to thrive.
Grimmer was hired at SUNY Poly as a part-time intramural assistant and assistant men's basketball coach in 1984. He was named the full-time assistant director of athletics the following year, and later served as the athletic director, a head coach and the sports information director at various times before he retired in July 2021.
Grimmer led SUNY Poly athletics to new heights during the 2009-10 season when he guided the men's basketball team to the sectional semifinals, or "Sweet 16", of the 2010 NCAA Division III championship after the Wildcats defeated their opponents in the first and second rounds. The team won 26 games and captured their second straight conference tournament title that season.
Grimmer, who played at Hamilton from 1977 to 1981, is ninth on the team's all-time scoring list with 1,500 points. The Continentals went 82-21 and won two Eastern College Athletic Conference championships during his four-year career.
