Men’s soccer falls 1-0 to nationally ranked Williams

Continentals held a 15-9 shot advantage in a hard-fought NESCAC match

CLINTON, N.Y. – Williams College's Mohamed Keussom scored in the 12th minute and the Ephs handed the Hamilton College Continentals their first loss of the season with a 1-0 NESCAC decision at Hamilton's Love Field on Tuesday. 
 
Season Update
Hamilton moved to 0-1-2 (0-1-1 NESCAC) on the season.
 
Williams is ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll. The Ephs were playing their NESCAC opener and improved to 3-0-0 overall. 
 
How It Happened
  • The Continentals fired a pair of shots in the first eight minutes of play. 
  • Williams scored a few minutes later on a throw-in. Henry Kirkman sent a long throw-in into the box where Eamon Gara Grady headed it toward the back post and Keussom sent a header into the net. 
  • With less than one minute remaining in the first half, the Continentals almost tied it on a Julian Jacobs '24 shot from the top-left corner of the box, but it sailed just over the crossbar.
  • Hamilton controlled most of the possession in the second half and had seven shot attempts to Williams' three.
  • Luke Ehrenfreund '25 put two shots on goal in the 88th minute, but the Ephs' Ben Diffley made the save. 
  • The Continentals posted a 15-9 shot advantage. 
  • Hamilton held a 4-3 edge on corner kicks. 
Notes
  • Ross Eagle '26 had three shot attempts in 30 minutes of action for the Continentals.  
  • Ehrenfreund had a team-high two shots on goal. 
  • The Ephs haven't allowed a goal in three matches.
  • Diffley tallied six saves, including four in the second half. 
  • The teams tied 0-0 in their meeting on Oct. 19, 2022.

The Continentals host No. 21 Middlebury College (2-0-1, 0-0-1) in NESCAC action on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
