Softball breezes to two non-conference wins at Oswego State

Graham ’25 pitched first career shutout in Game 1 for the Continentals

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Teagan Graham '25 recorded her first career shutout in Game 1 and the Continentals tallied 29 hits in a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Oswego State at Oswego's Laker Softball Field on Tuesday, April 4. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (14-10 overall) cruised to a 14-0 victory in the opener and posted an 11-2 triumph in the nightcap. Both games were stopped after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
  • Oswego State, which is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, moved to 3-11-1 overall.
Game 1
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a trio of hits. Katlynn McGivney '23 led off with a single through the left side and stole second base. Emma Tansky '25 reached on an error and both runners moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Charlie Quinn '25 plated McGivney with a one-out squeeze bunt and Jordan Merklin '26 drove in Tansky with an infield single. 
  • The Continentals added three more runs in the second inning, powered by an RBI double by Samantha Smith '23 and a run-scoring triple by Alessandra Priante '24. 
  • After a scoreless third inning, Hamilton exploded for nine runs on seven hits and four errors in the fourth. The highlight was a two-run double by Alison Zorn '26 that made it 9-0. Only one of the Continentals' nine runs were earned. 
Notes
  • McGivney went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. 
  • Priante, Taylor Santulli '25, Mikayla Worzel '23 and Smith contributed two hits each. Both of Smith's hits were doubles and Worzel was hit by a pitch twice.
  • Tansky and Zorn plated two runs apiece. 
  • Graham earned her second win of the season as she allowed two hits and three walks and struck out three in five innings. 
  • Madison Hoeflich and Fiona Higgins had Oswego's two hits.

How It Happened
  • The Lakers opened the scoring with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. 
  • Hamilton took the lead with five runs on five hits and a walk in the third inning and didn't look back. McGivney and Natalie Beebe '24 hit back-to-back singles with one out and Quinn scored McGivney with a double to right field. Ella Heftved '25 drove in Beebe with a single through the right side and Quinn scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Mayer '26. Hadley Rogers '26 plated two runs with a double but was thrown out at third base. 
  • The Continentals kept their foot on the gas with four runs in the fourth on five hits and three errors. Priante doubled in a run for a 9-2 advantage.
  • Heftved drove in Hamilton's final two runs on an infield single with two outs in the fifth inning. 
  • Oswego managed just two base runners over the last four innings.
Notes
  • McGivney went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish and is second in the NESCAC with a .541 batting average. She leads the conference with 40 hits, 34 runs and 11 stolen bases.
  • Beebe chipped in a season-high three hits and scored three runs. 
  • Quinn singled and doubled.
  • Heftved drove in a career-best four runs on two singles.
  • Both of Rogers' hits this season are doubles. 
  • Beebe improved to 8-4 in the circle with a season-high nine strikeouts in five innings. 
  • Christina Kania drove in both Laker runs.
  • Samantha Morgan led Oswego with two hits including a double. 
  • The last time the Continentals defeated their opponent by the eight-run mercy rule in both games of a doubleheader was April 10, 2021, against Wesleyan.

  • Hamilton travels to Williamstown, Mass., for a NESCAC doubleheader with Williams College (4-10, 0-2) on Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
